I think these deserve their own topic.
I´m amazed by the way the grass seems to enhance the graphical quality(yeah, I know Rome has grass as well, but this is better ).

Wow, those are great. Is that our first look at the battle interface? Is that speed adjustment where it says (-) x10 (+)?

the unit cards and UI look quite poor, especially compared to the 3D graphics. The terrain certainly looks amazing though. This time it's actualy looking better then MTW, cos RTW terrain(features) looked very poor compared to MTW.

I don´t think the battle interface is final like this and yes, I do like the new grass better than that of Rome. It makes the terrain look more believable.

Grass.......Why is it that they seem to latch on to something and then over do it? This grass is waist high!!
The rain still looks as bad as both MTW and RTW. Such a shame they can't reproduce the weather features of STW which were the best by far.

I like the prisoner counter at the bottom .
Also nice to see that the pikeman won't be in a phalanx formation.

Nice terrain and units. They never show the armies filled with peasants which will undoubtedly plague the campaign game though.

what does look a bit worrying is how far past the enemy unit the english swordsmen run because no one is blocking them (picture with the battle UI). Not to mension the messed up fromation of the engaged mongol (?) unit. These kind of things never happened in MTW, so it seems soldier AI is still no were near STW/MTW's. But hey, they actualy look around to find new opponents, so we can't complain right ?

Hmm, I agree on the rain, didn´t even notice there was any rain until I read your post...
Rain should be more than just a few white lines in front of the camera.

Umm, have you never been in a field which has been left to lie fallow? They didn't have lawn mowers in those days...

    grass

As for the plus and mins signs on either side of the pause button, YES! it looks like they have a speed adjustment system. They can't be the zoom for the mini-map because there are two more buttons for that.

o_O? What are you talking about? Those aren't whole units doing what you're saying, but indivual unit AI of one soldier in one unit. The swordsman are obviously charging the Mongols, if you look at the UI you see the Mongol Spearsmen are double-timing, thus it means that both units are charging each other. Not only does it do this in RTW, but if you're charging in full plate, shield and sword waving, I'm sure you'd have a hard time stopping while you have the momentum behind you. Plus the other formation is scattered because they were also running, because in RTW units that ran into formation weren't perfect square right away as they were in Shogun or MTW1. Thus, I see nothing wrong. Infact, the English appear to be in a very neat formation, and you can see them sending in the rest of the first wave to the left.

The pikemen actually use their pikes with two hands now, and they don't seem to be in that ridiculous phalanx of RTW. I sure hope pikes have been revamped.

Take a look at the screenshot with the battle interface ... that map seems pretty big. It's pretty big, larger than Rome's, it seems.

At least in that shot the enemy formation is cohesive, and actually well-deployed (are those archers on that ridge). Anyway, at least it is my fevered dreams that that army is beign led by the AI.

Well it looks like both the swordsmen and the spearmen are charging.. the units on the left wing of the swordsmen seem to be wrapping around the spearmen anyways, hence the thinner line.

The big thign: SPEED adjustment! It does look like they have a +/- for the speed, it might not be a bar a'la MTW but more speed options is very promising.

The map is also huge and the campaign map is looking better now. More environmental detail for certain.

If there is a Swiss faction then it should be allowed form a phalanx as I understand Swiss halberdier's tactics were influenced by the phalanx and paved the way for the later phalanx-style pikeman tactics of the 16th and 17th centuries.

Look this is lamentable! Why is Caen there instead of Rouen? Along with the inclusion of Bucherest, not to mention the fact that they have included Nottingham as one of the three major English cities. Oh, why oh why, can't they read a historical atlas? This is not D-Day in World War 2.

What's so wrong with Nottingham? I think they chose it because it is pretty much in the middle of the central province they have created. It was a significant medieval town and seem to have as good a claim as most others. The only clearly larger ones (Bristol, York and Norwich) are way off the centre of that middle province.

I wonder what the third major English city is?

Nottingham means Robin Hood. Robin Hood means Middle Ages. Robin Hood is cool. Hence Nottingham means that M2:TW is a cool medieval game!

He's right. CA is absolutely ruining M2TW with their city/province choices. I really don't think I can enjoy playing the game at all with Nottingham as the capital of an English province and freaking CAEN sitting across the coast. Its just too much! I dread seeing how they handle the Americas. I can't imagine how badly they intend to represent its major cities!

Wasn't it York in one of the screenshots?

EDIT: I wonder how easy it will be to place new cities in the game. Didn't CA say that every city had been hand-built this time? If so that means a LOT more work just to correct these silly mistakes.

    (edited again for CA-bashing)

I've still no idea why people consider Nottingham a bad choice for the middle England medieval city. It was a significant walled town with a formiddable castle.

I notice Mediaeval Acturiso propose Leicester. But I doubt Leicester was a significantly larger town during the time period.

Let's face it choosing one town to represent 1/3 of England is always going to be an abstraction. Warwick would probably be equally as good as Nottingham or Leicester. But there was no salient middle England city (unlike Birmingham today).

If CA excluded London, then I would understand the outrage. But people are getting angry about excluding Leicester? Or what?
