    Perhaps, but surely they could achieve that effect by simply giving the area loyalty problems at the beginning of the game. As it is the idea of an Anglo-Norman army moving into Northumbria having to conquer York seems ludicrous, especially after the whacking given the area less than two decades ago by William the Conquerer.

    Northumbria was already about as pacified as you can get.
