Default Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales

Successor of the well known games Sea Dogs, Age of Sail II and Pirates of
the Caribbean (more than 1,5 million copies sold)

So has anyone gotten this game, is it any good ?

At least a half year ago there were some serious issues concerning the release of the game - then scheduled around April - but it seems Playlogic and Akella managed to finally release it. For a little more on that, take a look at this thread started by Templar Knight some time ago.

Also here's a link to an IGN Preview (no reviews as of yet) so you can check this out for yourself.

Well, the actual PC Games here in Germany made a review and gave 68% IIRC.
The revieweer said he could almost have copied the review from Pirates of the Carribean because it is like POTC 1.5.
He also said he couldn't find a main plot.
The multiplayer is supposed to be fun but not described in the 2 page review.
I saw it today at EB Games for 40EUR and Amazon.de for 35EUR.
Oh, and it may be buggy, that and that I won't buy it now is all I know for now.

PotC wasn´t that brilliant to begin with, though the people at piratesahoy.net made a superb mod for it, fixing most of the bugs and adding loads of stuff, gameplay-wise.

A recent review of AOP in the UK issue of PC Gamer had the following verdict - "27% A tedious waste of promising material."

This is enough to put me off...that and the tacky looking characters. The only reason for getting this game, in my opinion, is for the eye candy when sailing at sea.

    27 % ?

Don't think I've ever come across such a low rated game, too bad really.

Got it .Nice looking game but very unstable ,which is fast becoming a game killer .
Not as much to do in towns ,as there was i potc ,seems unfinished in that area .
Multiplay seems only to be set on arcade mode ,which means the ships move around like speed boats .There could be a way to change that ,but I haven't found it yet .
There's talk of a new patch on the forums ,so maybe it'd be wiser to wait and see what develops there first .
    That's it.

As I said, with PotC it was much the same, but the community made something out of it. I don´t know what the current status is, but the last time I checked, PotC had been converted to a Pirates!- like gameplay, with titles and land grants to be gained, different difficulty levels, different weapon qualities, an option to pay the crew on a regular basis or to give them a share of swag, destructible cannons, bandits in the cities etc. It was the first time I came across game modding, and I was dead impressed when I saw what can be done by skilled people and the right game setup.
For that to happen with AoP will probably take a while, if it´s as mod-friendly as PotC (almost every aspect is accessible in open C files, which can be edited with the Windows editor).

Well Age of Pirates russian version Corsairs 3 was releasead last year if my memory doesn't trick. it was very buggy game. even the patches (now patch 1,4 is released) didn't corrected this. I don't know what is the english versios, but original russian version was marked 0.99. To fast release seems to ruin such an interesting games.

On the bright side ,one of the games developers who drops by on the Pirates Ahoy forums ,has said that a new patch is due out soon .
    Fix the frigging crashes .
Oh and a few new skins to choose from would be nice .

Another German review giving as much as 52%.
They like the setting and the weather effects, but the polygon models are not that detailed, huge technical issues and very bad controls.
I could live with those controls of POTC, but I have to say they could be a lot better(and I assume they stayed the same since it's almost the same game anyway ).
