    Default Catholic factions

I would like to know which catholic factions you guys can't wait to play, in other words... What is your favourite catholic faction?Explain why.

I myself voted for England, just because you are then in the 'corner' of the world,so a pretty much safe area to start your expansion.

If the HRE strategic situation is like MTW, I will prefer them. I like it when you are on the defensive from the AI.

Spain in M:TW was simply perfect. I hope in M:TW2 too. They had a great starting position, easily to defend as soon as the almohads are kicked out, and quiet wealthy, very varied neighbours to fight, a good troop selection (loved the lancers) and now even an excellent acces to america.

    France

In MTW they seemed to have the most assignments in the Middle East when playing GA. I also choose France because God Wills It

I'd say England. They were dirt-poor, but they had the best position to start conquering the world. And they kicked some serious french butt too. :)

Now, since Scotland is in-game, England just got a bit more "thougher to play". :)

The Holy Roman Empire, surrounded by enemies, prone to civil wars, but lots of potential for greatness.

Scotti. For a few reesons: Wanted the Irish, got the Scots. The Scots will be in a corner. They will be fighting an uphill battle too. Last, I am eeger to see how different their culture is from the other factions.

Note to self: Make sure I actually *read* the first post before voting.... (I was still in MTW mode in my head, so I voted for the Spanish.)

In Medieval 2, however, I'd say I'm most looking forward to playing the Scots, with the Danes and English right behind them.

Of course, that's only the Catholic factions. When factoring in the Muslim and Orthodox factions, my list would probably look like this:

    1) Scots
    2) Danes
    3) Egyptians
    4) Byzantines
    5) English

I know my friends that play TW are all looking forward to playing as the Scot as well. I'm afraid we were all ruined by Braveheart.

I like Hungary because they had more light cavalry than any other Catholic faction in Medieval 1, including horse archers, making them really unique and more versatile in some ways. They're in a good position to increase they're holdings, as well, being bordered by a couple rebel provinces and another small faction (Poland) who usually makes for a fun and balanced war early on. Once you've secured most of east-central Europe from the Baltic to the Adriatic, you're in a good position to start chipping away at either of two much larger factions (Holy Romans or Byzantines) who are usually already at war with multiple factions.

Not an extremely challenging set-up, to me its great fun for your first campaign to get the hang on the game. So that's probably who I'll be playing first.

No idea what their units will be like, but who else will get the chance before a battle to hear the commander say, "It's fine Scottish weather we're having. The rain is falling straight down and kind of to the side like." (Braveheart quote, apologies in advance)

Even though I'm English, I actually find the MTW English a little dull,

Still, I'll probably take English, because the Medieval English accent is the most awesome of them all.

Portugal for sure, because they were the first Catholic nation to sail to deep African seas reaching the indies.

i voted for sicily just because they are often overlooked. of all the powers you can play, they are the only one that i think has completely disappeared and blended into the countryside. that is, you can not go to italy and hear the norman tongue.

the norman sicilians are in a great physical location for crusading. they can also fall back to defensive position and build a fleet if they want. they can turtle and compete with venice for the money game.

Well, surprisingly enough, if you go to Normandie you have some chances of hearing it heh
OTOH, if you go to Sicily you can hear sicilianu and some dialects that are vanishing really fast. Normans were simply the ruling elite, a small minority at best.
I agree though that the kingdom of Sicily under the rule of the Normans was one of the most fascinating periods in medieval history.

Denmark, becuase they have some viking elements in their military, although its fading fast, but it'd be awesome for early games. Also totally trumping empires 10 times your size, always satisfying.

This will enable me to reinact the 100 years war with france, as well as creating a few of the battles with scotland.

The time scale will also allow for the war of the roses battles to be created as historic battles. Cant wait to get my teeth into these
