What will be the results of the 2006 election?

People should make use of the creative 'gah', at least.

Republicans will lose seats in both houses, but not enough to lose control.

However, with their margins substantially thinned, the Democrats will be in an excellent position to torpedo almost anything coming from the Bush administration that has more "flavor" to it than mozzarella cheese.

Bottom line: Little or no significant legislation, precious little reform, and no decisive military action will occur during the last years of the Bush admin. We end up with more of the same as all sides mark time to the next big election.

Mind you, there is a good bit of that every time, and one could argue that nothing of value aside from re-election porking gets done.

Gah, no matter what happens it will be just as useless as the last one. Humanity never comes up with solutions while in large groups, as shown by cities, no invention at all, where a small group under pressure solves every problem. so lets get rid of the thing and elect a tribunal with me at the head.

Republicans will retain control but will loose seats allowing more bureaucratic BS, I anticipate less getting accomplished than ever. I would much rather see W as Queen!

I could see the Democrats actually taking the House, which is funny, because the House right now is further right than the Senate. I don't see enough up-for-grabs races in the Senate for the Dems to make enough headway to actually take the majority in the Senate.

If Bush had even rudimentary political skills, he'd be able to accomplish a lot more than he has to date. Even Ronnie... facing an openly hostile Senate and House (both Democrat) implemented his agenda. But Bush has this attitude of "I'm doing this. If you don't like it, too bad, I ain't gonna explain it to you or why it's important". Medicare Part D is a prime example. You ask him about it and he answers with "Why do you hate old people?" I don't!!! I don't think the bill helps old peole (in many cases, it actually hurts them, quite badly). He can't even get along with the Senate and House leadership, and they come from HIS party!!!

A lot of people compare Bush to Reagan. That's a very insulting comparison to Ronnie, IMHO.

I would be one of those exceptions, I just thought it was too funny to pass up. Don't particularly like your football analogy here though, aren't we (us Americans, that is) on the same team? We just need to pick a decent coaching staff and general manager, otherwise we end up like the Arizona Cardinals...

That will be fine once we eliminate the leftist liberal movement. Then we can have two parties: Republicans and Libertarians. I always said there are two types of liberals: The elite who give the orders and the masses who follow the orders. Do you ever hear of "asian leaders" in this country? How about "Armenian leaders"? Nope. You won't find 'em. So why do we need "black leaders"? The black leadership wants the backs to be oppressed so that they, the leadership, can fill the role of "charismatic leader". The days of Martin Luther King were great, but were also a long long time ago. Jessie jackson is not Dr. King.

The democrats are a fractured party with no unifying theme other than the hatred of Republicans. The leftist masses are poverty-stricken thanks to themselves. These people are lazy and want free crap. So the liberal elite retain power by giving it to them.

I understand that competition is ruthless. I know that it is difficult to work hard like Republicans say you must in order to thrive. But that is the fundamental differnce between the two parties. You have a ruthless competitive business mindset and you have a lazy give-me-free-crap-because-I-was-spit-out-of-a-vagina mindset.

No my friend. We have two teams. Those that better America and those that will destroy America by giving in to the desires of the laziest and worst amongst us. The criminals, the welfare whores, the lazy.


I am not saying that all Democrats are leftist liberals. Those that know the liberal agenda are the ones that either demand the free crap or give it to them. The rest of the poor saps are sucked in by ignorance of the socio-political undercurrents and hatred of crappy Bush policies. Even I think Bush is a doofus, but that doesn't mean I am going to go join the Democrat party. Any Republican who abandons the party for Democrats because they are mad at GOP policies is showing a lack of guts and commitment. Change the party from within. Get active. Don't run away.

The true Republican agenda is what I believe is the best of America. State's Rights. Fiscal restraint. Personal Responsibility.

The other team can suck it.

I don't really understand why you continue to paint the Dems as liberal elites/government teat suckers. They are not all like that, some of them actually are closer to the "true GOP" mindset than some Republicans these days. You seem to have a very idealistic view of how political parties and politicians in general work. You need to get more cynicism in your diet. If the GOP maintains it's stranglehold on all three branches, they will sell us (the people) out for their own personal gain at the cost of our freedom. Same would happen if the Dems controlled all three branches. Differing opinions are a must in government, it keeps everyone honest. Power corrupts, yada yada yada.

We don't have two teams, we have differing opinions of how the (one) team should be managed. If both sides cannot work together, we end up 2-14 with the chance to draft a Heisman QB bust. Yeah.

All kidding aside, I am hopeful that there is enough votes for the Democrats to regain the house. There is certainly enough discontent among many voters for them to do so. Then we can get back to good ole' gridlock politics. This may be frustrating for many, but I feel that it is better for the whole country, because usually that forces more compromise across the isle. I've always felt that Americans are at there best when they agree to disagree and then move on and pass some legislation that everyone can live with. It is the real way that the founding fathers envisioned the whole thing to work. Ahh...those checks and balances! It's outrageous that not even 50% of the political party in our country controls the whole shabang. Everyone must be fairly represented, even the minority groups that conservatives hate so much. This is the reason that I, a conservative Democrat, will remain so.

The Constitution does have quite a bit of in-built gridlock doesn't it. The founders had a few bits of gray matter involved in crafting it -- and I think that is one of its strengths.

The difference today is that when the FF started the ball rolling, nearly all eligible voters were registered and 4 out of 5 eligible voters went to the polls, despite the fact that it was a multiple hour trip. Now, little more than half of those eligible are registered, and with a stiff rain on election day the percentage eligible voters actually voting drops into the 20-30 range. The polarization so many decry would matter much less if more people -- aside from the diehards with the agendas -- got off their duff and voted.

If the republic fails, it will be self-chosen ignorance and persistent apathy that kills it.
