Default Canada to arm border guards

Canadian border guards will be armed

I seem to remember a somewhat heated thread about this very matter previously:
The Conservatives had indicated earlier this year that they intended to arm border guards, following a number of border incidents in which guards left their posts when they felt threatened by reports of armed fugitives headed their way from the U.S.
So they're finally going to arm them instead of having to flee when threatened? Congrats to the Conservative government... except it's going to take 10yrs to do it!?!

The poorest man may in his cottage bid defiance to all the forces of the Crown. It may be frail; its roof may shake; the wind may blow through it; the storm may enter; the rain may enter; but the King of England cannot enter – all his force dares not cross the threshold of the ruined tenement! - William Pitt the Elder

Actually this is a response to the failed Canadian Bacon inasion in the 1980's.

Reinvent the British and you get a global finance center, edible food and better service. Reinvent the French and you may just get more Germans.

I smell pork. Armed government agencies are very rare here. Outside police and military the only armed agency is lands and forrests. And only because they enforce hunting regulations.

Now this project is going to be expensive. They are going to have to change the rules regarding who can join the border guards now. Build arms lockers into border agent buildings. Train and certify those who even qualify to use a pistol to use them. Set up a schedule to use target ranges. Get trainers for the agents.
