Never seen "Rome" but from what you say sounds good.

Gladiator is the most historically unaccurate garbage I ever saw :P

Sparticus has alot of falsehoods in it aswell.

The best Rome movie of all time is Cleopatra. It's a 2 disc movie from the 60's

Staring Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, Richard Burton as Marc Antony and Rex Harrison as Gaius Julius Caesar. Starts at the end of the final battle between Caesar and Pompey and ends at the Death of Cleopatra and Antony after Agrippa, Octavians General defeats Antony in a sea battle and the chase them back to Egypt.

Excellent movie.

Another good movie, though also historically inaccurate like Gladiator or Sparticus is Attila. I think it was a made for T.V. movie but I rented it once so it's at least on video. Had a classic scene where Flavius Aetius is in prison, the guard spits on him, 5 minutes later the Roman Emperor orders Aetius to be released and put in command of Rome's armies to fight off Attila. Guard wanted to kill himself I think. "Release him... He's your new Commander" GULP!

Hope this helps.
