Default Absolute vile filth. Perhaps you all are right about Rupert Murdoch

OJ Simpson turned his ex-wife Nicole into a pez dispenser and Ron Goldman into swiss cheese, got away with it, defaulted on a wrongful death judgment against him and now, he's got a book and a 2 night Fox stint, all based on "IF I did it "... Apparently, he's done looking for 'the real killer' out on Florida golf courses...

The U.S. is a democracy and errors of justice happen in democracies. Live with it. There are countries where the O.J. Simpsons of this world themselves are the judges, others where they don't even make it to the dock before being beaten to death.

It is a matter of perspective.

My outrage is not that OJ got acquited. As you say, it's the price we pay for having trial by jury of peers, which all things considered is still the best way to go. My disgust is with the bookdeal and the dedicated 2 day Fox News press junket to hock said book.

Bill O'Reilly was really appalled about this, he complained about Fox's stance on this during his radio show, and says he will do so again later tonight on his FoxNews show. With Fox's approval, so he says.

Disclaimer: I drive into work listening to the SportsJunkies on WJFK, O'Reilly has the station in the afternoon, so the radio is on that station when I start the car up to go get lunch. I'm not a listener to the NoSpin Zone. Really, I'm not!

I really hope some judge orders all the proceeds for OJ on the sell of this book go to the payment the civil court judgement against OJ. And OJ doesn't recieve one cent, but most likely the publisher gave OJ an upfront payment of some amount in the millions of dollars.

And I hope a judge also orders the publisher to pay to a woman's abuse shelter all the proceeds that the publishing company gets for actually publishing this book.

It was California he was sued in , pensions are exempt from legal awards in that State.

Wow. I am impressed. An Eire-man is conversant in California law. And I admit shame that I'm not as knowledgeable of Irish statutes.

Tribesman has it right. Generally, Cali courts look at when, and under what obligatory circumstances ('obligatory' = marriage, partnerships, etc. ) assets were accumulated. And basic shelter (whether it's a mansion, an outhouse, or something in between) is sancrosanct.

IIRC, (and I may not) OJ's civil settlement directs any book/tv/movie profits he enjoys, to his kids' trust fund. God... they must be teens now. Maybe this is his (twisted, Hollywood) way of fully funding their future.

If I were related to either of his "what if" victims, I would catch OJ off guard and give him a taste of his own medicine, and theres not a jury in the country who would convict me, unless of course I was tried in East St. Louis.

I guess OJ's running out of money...or he's just more blatantly vile. Maybe he needs a new golf cart to catch those murderers.

It appears that Murdoch has apologised and pulled the TV special and the book - under substantial pressure from the public and affiliates.

    Murdoch cancels OJ Simpson plans

OJ Simpson was found not guilty of murder after a sensational trial
Rupert Murdoch's media companies have cancelled plans for a controversial book by OJ Simpson and a televised interview with him.
The book and programme If I Did It, in which Mr Simpson describes how he would have killed his ex-wife and her friend, had caused public outrage.

Mr Murdoch said he was "sorry for any pain this has caused".

Mr Simpson was acquitted of murdering ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman on 12 June 1994.

Judith Regan, publisher of ReganBooks, owned by Mr Murdoch's News Corp, had said she considered the book Mr Simpson's confession.

Several affiliates of Mr Murdoch's Fox TV had refused to screen the interview on the grounds of bad taste.

Mr Murdoch said: "I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project.

"We are sorry for any pain that this has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson."

The TV programme was intended to promote the ex-American footballer's book, which was planned for publication on 30 November.

The deal with Mr Murdoch's broadcasting and publishing companies was worth $3.5m (£1.85m).

During the interview, Mr Simpson describes how he would have carried out the murders at his ex-wife's home in Los Angeles "if he were the one responsible".

Fox TV had scheduled the Simpson interview to air on 27 and 29 November. There are about 200 Fox affiliates across the US.

The family of Ronald Goldman acknowledged News Corp had accepted "responsibility for its deplorable decisions" but said the cancellation did "not undo the damage to the families of the victims".

The family said it wanted hold "those persons accountable who may have acted in concert with Simpson to defraud the Goldmans".

Mr Simpson told the Associated Press he could not comment.

"I would like nothing better than to straighten out some things that have been mischaracterised. But I think I'm legally muzzled at this point," he said.

Mr Simpson's lawyer, Yale Galanter, said his client was "totally indifferent" about the cancellations.

The 1995 verdict had divided US opinion along racial lines, with most white people feeling that justice had not been done.

Mr Simpson was later found liable for the deaths in a civil trial and ordered to pay $33.5m in damages - money that has never been collected.

The BBC's Justin Webb in Washington says the civil trial result and America's constitutional freedom of speech rights have enabled people to openly say they believe Mr Simpson is a murderer.

Mr Simpson would have faced no further penalty as a result of the book or interview.

From what little I've read, it seems so. The deal is done. 400,000 copies of the book have been printed, and the interviews have been taped. OJ gets his money. The interesting question is what Fox and Judith Regan will do with their purchased property. Will they take the hit? Or will they try to cash out farther down the line?

This whole episode is in unspeakably poor taste ...
