    Hi

Ive introduced good members of other RTW forums to this forum. They were respected members on other forums, at least equals to most here. Yet were restricted to junior membership. They drifted away. The membership division had a negative effect.

Personally I dont like any distinction between members except post count, date joined, and reputation.

when I first joined, I was told you only needed to post 10-20 posts,no more then 25 to be a member.. after 35 posts I was a member. Just have to make good quatily posts, then after at least 1-2 weeks, you be a members :) :)

I understand the sentiment, but we've found through experience that the current membership system is a necessary evil. Econ just posted the following in another thread about this very subject:

    Quote Originally Posted by econ21

Then, just before M2TW came out, we had a really big liberalisation, allowing juniors to post in any game-related forums. However, we also started to get hit by very frequent "spambot" type posts, often for porn, and one or two geniune junior members started going off the rails.

Increasing flood control was a counter-vailing measure to the liberalisation. It gives us more time to "insta-gib" the spambots before they can flood the forums. It also means that newcomers have to think more before posting, discouraging the risk of spam and of repetitive one line "How do I crusade?" type threads that tend to annoy older members. When I go to some other forums, I get discouraged by the number of vacuous one line posts I have to wade through before I get to the good stuff. Here at the Org I really value the longer, more substantive contributions which presumably take several minutes to think out and send. (This post took me several minutes to draft.)

But I can see that the level of flood control we have can be an annoyance for junior members. However, it is only short term - if juniors are active here, promotion usually does not take too long.
When econ said that we've been having major issues with spambots, I can promise he wasn't exaggerating. Ever since the Org opened up all game-related forums to junior members (approximately 2 months ago), we've had a pretty massive influx of spam threads.

I can also confirm that we have had junior members go bad on us--not often, thankfully, but it does happen. Given that, it's far better to catch their behavior when they're only in the game forums....as opposed to the more serious discussion forums, such as the Monastary and Backroom.

Is it a perfect system? No, of course not. In the Org's collective experience, however, it is the lesser of two evils.

    Indeed.

    Always!

They scare poor horses. Horses stink too though, but not as bad as camels.

    Gah! Camels.
