    Default Aarrgh My Eyes!!!

I have just been over to the tw.com forums to have a gander. After about 15 minutes reading I switched back to .org. What did I notice? I'm Blind!! I Can't See!!

Black background a white writing! Good lord, I can still see the writing now burnt into my cornea!

    Hey you noticed that too!!!!

Edit: I have to admit, the aesthetic colours and good discussions do make one stay here!

Yes, I did originally consider joining TW.com, but I decided that the colours were just too anaesthetically pleasing. It's better to stay here at the reasonably beautiful Guild.

I like the lay-out of .com, it's nice, easy and clear ... anyway sometimes I ask myself why I'm still there, I mean c'mon .com

Are you being sarcastic? Or are you trying to get away with the insult that you gave .com.

Black backgrounds with white texts are quite simply easier on the eyes. This site for example is illuminating more pixels on your screen than the .com is, thus creating more glare. Try text editing with black on white as opposed to white on black and see how your eyes feel after a while. The same applies to consoles. I always use white on black (a la DOS) in a bash console under Linux, alot better.

When I "learned" to make Powerpoint presentations early this year one of the rules we got was:
Always use a black background with white texts, it's easier for the eyes and people will stay focused.

    Curse my darn eyes then!

On a serious note my screen is the Dell WUXGA which means greater contrast and vivid colours. Hence why my Eyes Burn! It's like a tamer version of staring at the SUN!

I tend to use a yellow or broken white background, with a bad enough projector it tends to come out as a not-too-intense white, also easier on the eyes. I never tried the white text on a black background before (for presentations) it seems counterintuitive for some reason.

The main downside of a black background is that colours don't come out as much, which can be fairly annoying when programming.

I use the background of "The Guild" skin in all powerpoints I do.

I was always told Dark Background and light writing make for the ideal Powerpoint. Be it White on Black or Yellow on Blue.

But that is for Powerpoint with few words on the page. I just seem to be very dazzled by the .com colour. Lots of text on the page. Here I have the Guild theme. Almost Feng Shui. Lovely. Be nice if they had pastel colours in green!

Edit : Oh they do in arabique!

Well parts of the screen the projector doesn't reach is black here at the GIA, which means that a balck background tends to be better, it blends in with everything else

Also they told us it's better to get use Verdana or Arial instead of Times New Roman, dunno if any of you "learned" that

Well, Opera simply allows you to change the style to several predefined ones or just choose your own colours for text and background etc...so it's not the page, it's my browser.

    Hello all,
I used to use Opera, but then I was told to avoid anything but IE by somebody I knew who works for Norton. It actually seemed faster that IE, however, and I liked the way you could change the skins. It was very smooth. I also missed tabbed browsing when I left it, but now I have downloaded Windows Live Tool bar I have that again anyway.

Somebody from Norton told you to only use IE? One of the most (if not THE most) insecure web browsers out there? Either the Norton guys have gotten very stupid these days, or they want your PC infected so they can sell you malware solutions.

Ignore that advice, get both Opera and Firefox install the two, use both, and see which one you prefer after a few hours/days/weeks/months.

Norton/Symantec is expensive and nasty bloatware.
