Question Turns Per Year - What's your setting?

I've been itching to do this for awhile now, really curious as to what others are doing with their game in terms of modding the turn rates. So... What's your pleasure? Default 1/2tpy? 1tpy? 2 turns per year? 4?? Vote and let's get a feel for the numbers here! If other than the options to vote for, post your setting below!

I'll start. Went with 2 turns per year. I just feels right, and seems to be a good balance for campaign duration. I tend to tech and turtle a bit, so this suits me just fine.

2 years per turn. Best setting for overall gameplay. Even with heavily modded files so that if I'm playing on the 2 turns per year I get proportional pop-growth and build-times, I find the game incredibly drawn-out and tedious. 2 yrs/turn is just right, I find. Even if the Characters are demi-gods.

Not because of the patch I hope? You should be able to patch the game and continue your campaign just fine...

No worries mate, I'm going to keep track of J.M. posts and tally them up at the end.

I prefer to play my first rounds with a game the way it was intended by the developers so I went with the 2 years per turn. It doesn't bother me as such and I've quite enjoyed as the whole gameplay is geared towards that number.
Having Citadels and everything built by the time gunpowder comes around just seems weird and changing everything in balance is a bit tedious.

I'm still not completely over the aging issue though. True enough, I hardly notice the different time lines as I play along, but I like to immerse myself and keep a kind of diary for my games to roleplay my generals more.
Ideally I would play with 1 year per turn and characters also aging one year per turn. Two turns per year's just too long in my opinion and I liked the way it was in M:TW. Hope the unpacker provides us with the means to change the aging ratio so that characters are no longer set to aging 1 year every 2 turns.

    Cheers!

I hate short games, so I play on 2 turns per year and can't stand the default timescale.

Campaigns should take at least a week to complete.

Right now, I have 1 turn = 1 year. But since I'm a huge turtler, I'm probably gonna mod it to 2 turns a year. I hope characters age normally at that setting.

I'm on turn 86 in my current campaign and have been playing three weeks now. I like to take it slow but 2 years per turn is ample enough time and gives me some prospect of maybe reaching the America's.

Anyway, here's what you do. Go to My Computer and open whichever drive you installed M2TW onto. Then go through these files:

    Program Files/SEGA/Medieval II Total War/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign/descr_strat.

    This file is the one you need to mod. Open it. You'll notice a section that says;

    start_date 1080 summer
    end_date 1530 winter
    timescale 2.00

Change timescale to 0.50 for turns to last 6 months.

I havn't got M2TW yet (I need to get a new computer to play it). However, when I do get it, I will play with four turns per year. Nice slow gameplay. Wonderful

I have a little home brew mod for the 0.5 timescale setting that thanks to the mod switching feather mean I can also play the game vanilla style too and I switch between them...

I choose "other" in the poll because I am undecided at present.

I feel instinctively that the 2 years per turn is too fast and the odd character aging still bothers me no matter how much I try to not think about it. But, 225 turns is a very optimal game length for a challenging game. Expand too quick and the AI can bite you, expand too slow and you will run out of time.

I like the 0.5 turn length in theory and it really produces a slower paced game (well in my personal little mod that combines some of the stuff from SloMod with some of my own ideas it produces a slower pace). But 900 turns is very, very long... And even plying pretty non-agressively I can't picture maintain a game all the way through.

Timescale 1.0 could be ideal, but the charcter aging is still out and the whole winter summer map (and battles) thing would break immersion for me even more!!
