You didn't define which Total War you are playing:

For Rome and M2 press the tilde button (~) and it opens the console, enter it there.

Press the key with the following symbols on it ¬` and then type into the console toggle_fow. To close the console press the key again. To hide the map repeat previous actions.Originally Posted by Captain Pugwash

Hmm tries this myself, pressing ~ key nothing happens, pressing `¬ key on Rome brings down a box that you can enter word/script, on Med2 its the '@ key that does it ? have I got a unique version ? also typing in those comands for Rome and Med 2 does nothing at all.

Throb, it's not the ~ key but the ` key (the key under escape, pressed without shift held)
