Anyone ever have these guys open gates so you don't get at least 1 turns siege warning?
Admittedly the AI has got smarter with siege weapons but I've never lost a city through a spy...

Yes, one time. The AI did not use the open gate though.

happened to me last night, my fortress in Gaza got opened by a Spy.
The enemy never gets to assaulting my walls anyway except in custom battles. They either try to wait me out or I sally or attack them with reinforcements.
Kind of sad I know. But then I'm glad because my comp can't handle large siege battles :P
Want gunpowder, mongols, and timurids to appear when YOU do?

I had it happen when either the Mongols or Timurids had me under siege.
I was gutted because up until that point, I thought I had them.
I was vastly outnumbered but I'd managed to destroy all their siege weapons and artillery with my trebuchets and was just sending the last group of their elephants amok with fire arrows...
They'd even knocked out a siege tower full of their own halberdiers or something with shots from their cannon elephants!![]()
...then my elation turned to despair as the remaining horde came flooding through my gate anyway (which looked, for all intents and purposes, to be closed, I'll hasten to add).![]()
Can't moan too much though, as I've done it to the AI many, many times more than they've done it to me.![]()
Happened to me when a small, high-quality Danish army attacked my Englishmen at Brugges. They had two spies in the city, and I hadn't reckoned with my gates being open. I rushed everybody down the main wall when the "gates opened by enemy spies" message popped up and set up in the keep, which also contained the plaza. Got some potshots at the Danish Clerics and Axemen before they reached the inner gate, and then, wtf!?!, the inner gate was spy-opened, too!![]()
I still managed to drive them off by charging in mailed knights from opposite sides near the inner gate, all the while concentrating militia archer fire from the walls, but it was a close shave.
People know what they do,
And they know why they do what they do,
But they do not know what what they are doing does

I had this happen a number of times in my Spanish campaign. Which taught me the importance of always keeping at least one spy in town. I've not had it happen since doing that.Originally Posted by Moah
