English have longbows. Use that to your advantage.
Alternatively, the AI tends to defend when attacked (i.e. you should attack, not hold position) when it has more ranged troops than you do. SO what you could do is to attack with a cav/infantry heavy army when the Timurids hold their position and withdraw parts of your army to be replacded by a longbow reinforcements army with which you can sequentially shoot em off their horses (and off their elephants). Just switch in around 4-6 longbows each time and keep exchanging till you run out.
If they have been properly decimated, you can charge in with your melee, if not, just withdraw. You win the day either way.
I did roughly the same thing as Moors against the Mongols by changing in peasant crossbows (long range) and horse archers.
Sometimes a defeat is worth more than a victory ;)
