    Question Re: Adding Character Traits

I'm having a problem with adding traits to minor characters, primarily with getting the program to recognize their names. Royalty is easy, unlike in the Rome Total War games royalty don't have family names, so all one has to do is enter the first name surrounded by quotation marks, i.e., "Robert", "William", etc. When I've tried to enter the names of generals who married into the family, or spies I have a problem. In Rome Total War most characters had both first names and surnames. I would enter the name as "Caesar Julii", etc, etc. With MTW2 however I find that Medieval Shell won't recognize compound character names such as "Robert Elliotts". I tried fusing the names together, i.e., "RobertElliotts" or binding them together with a line, i.e. "Robert_Elliotts" but Medieval Shell still won't recognize them. Even worse I'm sure are those characters with place names such as "Robert of Bedford". Has anyone come across this problem and found the solution?

Ah ha, now I get it. You take the character in question, move him somewhere where you can select him alone, select him, and then use "this" without the quotation marks as the character's name. So you enter: give_trait this "CharacterTrait" value (where value is a number usually between 1 and 3 but sometimes between 1 and 5) to add the trait.

I don't get it. Do I type this stuff while I am actually playing the game? If I do, what exactly do I type? Let's say I want to give my imam Mahfouz the Warmonger trait. What EXACTLY do I type?
