Weird question, probably, but: is it possible to turn a German installation of M2TW into an English one?
If so, what do I need to do? ;)

Oh, wouldn't it be nice? I myself have the French Collector Edition - and it's my first TW game in other language than English... kinda bizzare, got to admit.![]()
Some features aren't even translated..., merchants, for instance, trade in English: "...ce marchand vend du... silk", or "il vend du... iron" etc.
And in my French version, Aztecs address me with "sahib" and wish me "qu'Allah vous protege, sahib". Wow, Muslim Aztecs?![]()
I couldn't find any means to change the in-game language...![]()
"Whose motorcycle is this?", "It's a chopper, baby.", "Whose chopper is this?", "Zed's.", "Who's Zed?", "Zed's dead baby. Zed's dead." - Butch and Fabienne ride off into the sunset in Pulp Fiction.
Exactly... since I installed the Lands to Conquer mod, some retinues and such are in English...Plus the language should be some kind of cfg files anyway.
Well, there's still hoping. I've wrote to Sega's customer support but I don't really expect an answer.
For many games, if you can replace the language files with that of a another language file, you can change the language. After all, it just has to display some unicode strings.

Then I'd need the language files... ;-)
I think this is kinda silly (not being able to easily change languages). I mean movies on DVD's come with all kind of languages and subtitles, and you just have to pick one.
SEGA manufactures TW games in several languages anyway, so why make changing languages possible only if you buy another game?![]()

The Aztec thing is not specific BTW, the English version has the same issue... muslim sound files are used for Aztecs in it as well.
The game really ought to come in all languages at once, at the very least it'd save them print time... they'd only need to make one DVD set instead of a half dozen different language ones. Which would mean less cost in setup and therefore better profitability for TW. Which means more TW games down the line...

Same in the german version, guess the game gets the names for the ressources right out of some ressources file, IIRC RTW had some text files with the translated texts and words.Originally Posted by Vlad Tzepes
But there is a localized.pack file in the packs-folder, maybe putting an english file there would change it, if the english version doesn't even have that file, simply renaming it might do the trick.
edit: renaming it didn't do anything for me.

Sooo... nobody has an idea?
Still got no answer from Sega on that, btw.
Replacing the text files should be easy, in the mod forum there´s a download link with the txt files.
Replacing the speech will be harder, and that´s precisely the reason why CA doesn´t release all languages in every localized version: the whole thing would get way too big.
I was faced with a similar situation and thought about trying to change the language.
But then I realized that now I can justify staying up until 4am playing because I'm really just practicing my German.![]()
Just think of all the great vocabulary you can learn - haven't you always wanted to know that Trechebut is "Tribok" in German?
Seriously though, sorry I can't help you out.
Well, it seems that the only legit way of changing language is by buying another original game... in the language you want.
Easy and efficient, it comes with free installing wizzard, just put your disk in your computer and wait![]()

As a last resort, you can download a English ISO version of M2TW, as long as you actually bought an original copy of M2TW and possess the CD key for it, you can and are allowed to do this.
It is legal because when you buy a game, you're actually just buying the license that allows you to play it, not the actual game. The ISO version is prefered because its exe files haven't been tampered with or cracked - which is illegal I believe.

Not so sure, but if its legal why not. I have czech version and Im already tired of all those translation atempts... it sounds to me too wierd...
ummm... what's an ISO version?Originally Posted by antisocialmunky

An ISO is the image of the what the CD/DVD contains.Originally Posted by Vlad Tzepes
ive noticed in the preferences file a setting that says english.
even though mine is an english version it is set at zero.
perhaps on other language versions if they have this setting listed all you should have to do is change it to 1.
just a guess.
Guys, i'm not interested in the legalitites of game images - we'll stop that discussion now so that there's no temptation for links to be posted.

Thanks, I'll look for the link. I don't think that the speech would be that big a problem. Just pack it on a dvd... ;)Originally Posted by Ciaran
