    Thumbs up Re: Avatars

Great, I've been waiting for this.

Time to check the new avatar collections...

P.S: Do you use M2TW unpacker to get the pictures? If not, what tool do you use to get pics and music?

Edit: - I notice there's no pic of mid-east agents, or perhaps I just missed it?
    - Suggestion: It would be nice if the avatars list are arranged in order alphabetically

And yes Tran, character images are available via the M2 unpacker.

From what I have seen browsing the avatar selection the Eastern Assassins will probably be reserved for moderators. It seem to be some old tradition that they keep - they always seem to posses Eastern Avatars which cover their faces.

Which is why i hold the position that:

    1) Members get all normal soldiers and general avatars
    2) Senior members and above get custom ones, and senior members get wider choice
    3) Assisstant Moderators get some small group of avatars
    4) Moderators get assassin avatars
    5) Admin get whatever they want

Works for me, undoubtably, many other would hate it if it came into effect.

Actually it seems that the mods get diplomat avatars too that have their faces partially or totally covered. It must be the face covering that makes it mod avatar..

I have a MTW Eastern Assassin avatar I'd really want to use on the .org but I doubt I'd get to pick it mostly as only Moderators can use them avatars

There has always been a tradtion, as long as I can remember, of Mods using the Assassin/Spy avatars. Personally I'm not too bothered about avatars. I usually find that after a while they get annoying as they all look so uniform. I regularly get annoyed with my own avatars and end up either changing it, or using no avatar, quite frequently.

Despite this, your avatar can make a big difference as to how you're perceived on here. Other members have no other visual representation to relate to apart from that small image.

Seems I am the only one disappointed with M2TW avatars? Not by the work put in obviously but by the actual pictures themselves. The MTW avatars looked much nicer IMO

I have to agree a bit, Orda. Looking at hundreds of these for a few hours made me often think, "Haven't I seen that one a dozen times already?"

I finally realised that there is a base face for each of these sets. They're 3D renders with different camera angles, face paint, facial hair, and outfits. Apparently the artists decided actually painting was not going to work for the volume they wanted. There are a couple of different eye widths and mouth positions in the 200-pic directories, but the base model for each type remains identical.

It's especially noticeable in the Meso-American and Princess avatars -- the lips, eyebrows, jawline, etc are identical and the only changes are facepaint and outfit.

I'll be interested to see if the Org community notices this after more people pick them and then think, "Hey, he's using my avatar!" only to realise it's the same avatar with a slightly different helmet design and an 8 degree change in camera angle.

    Post Re: Avatars

I have to agree with that too Tamur. I have seen my avatar in the gallery three times - each one with a different angle. Sadly, however, M:TW avatars weren't much better - there seems to be two or three sets of faces, four or five angles, about three hair styles/helmet styles and six or seven backgrounds which have been randomly put together for each group of agents. Generals are much better, but they also are in M2:TW with, from what I have seen in the gallery, much more individuality.

BTW, I believe that Meso-American portraits are actually face painted, helmet replaced, and background changed R:TW Egyptian Avatars.
