Default Irish - screens from my Mod

The Irish faction that I am adding is intended to be the first of maybe 5 or 6 more factions that I will be adding to my Mod. The map is based on an early version of Spurius' BigMap with many more regions added (199 total).

    I am thinking of adding:

    -Pisa
    -Aragon
-some kind of French Vassal/Outlaw faction
-something on the other side of Russia (pechenegs?/khazaks?...I'll have to research)
-some other slavic faction (Servia or Bulgars)
-another Turkic faction (seljuk or osman)

Any and all help/suggestions are welcome.

I am having big trouble with units showing up on the battle map. I see shadows, but no units. They still fight, but they are invisible (the other faction seems to be able to see them though). Any help would be appreciated.

Well, for the ten extra faction slots:

    Ireland
    Wales
    Norway
    Burgundy
    Aragon
    Sevilla
    Serbia
    Lithuania
    Kipchaks
    Kiev

    Ireland*
Wales (IMO, Britain is too small for 4 factions)
Norway (ok...I was thinking the Swedes)
    Burgundy (this could work)
    Aragon*
Sevilla (Spain might be too small for 4)
    Serbia*
Lithuania (now that's a thought, but not a lot of room, eh?)
    Kipchaks*
Kiev (I was planning on including them with Russia (Rus'))

-I was also thinking about changing Portugal to an emerging faction, for the sake of a little more accuracy.

Right now, I am just learning all of this. Ireland is the first faction that I have added (changed them from Saxons). I'm not entirely sure how to do it from scratch, but I have seen a few posts.

I would really like to know how to add units to the battle map...this is getting frustrating.

You can also change the Normans to another faction before you do one from scratch. Can't help with adding the units to the battlemap I'm afraid.

Would Spain and Britain not host 4 factions with the huge map mod your using?

I guess technically they would, but it would be pretty crowded. Wales only has 2 regions Caer yn Arfon & Caerdydd (unless I gave them the 1 region I have in Cornwall). I think I have 12 or 14 regions on spain. I'll put up some more screens...

Do you need some help with the Welsh? I can do all the historical stuff you need, if you want. I know pretty much all there is to know about the Welsh armies of about the Norman Invasion time to about 1200s.

I'm still not sure about them...my real concern is that I can't really mess around with the map and it is kind of crowded up there. On the other hand, they do have some room to expand (Chester/Bristol/Camborne...even Ireland, I guess). +the game is meant to last longer (0.50 timescale, reduced pop growth, expensive city upgrades, etc.) which will hopefully delay the inevitable thrashing at the hands of the more powerful factions.

I'll think about it some more...All said, I still kind of like the idea.

I would add them, even if it would crowd the Isles a bit. A lot of realism and fun there. Besides, they wouldn't be as strong as the English. I'll tell a little bit about the Welsh armies of the time.

The armies would have included Tealu, which are the equivalent of mailed knights, but they both threw javelins (Earlier period) and used lances (Bit later) They wore chainmail and had shields. They were usually composed of around one hundred and twenty men, though some have had upwards of one hundred and eighty.

They used Scandinavian and Irish mercenries. Welsh Warriors would generally wear linen clothes, as apposed to armor. This suited their raiding personality. They had very low moral. They also wore thin cloaks.

The main weapons were the spear and bow. The bow was extremely powerful, one reported to have shot an arrow 4in into an Oak door. The bow was used in a different way then the English Longbows, they used it at a closer range as an Ambush Weapon, rather than Long Range.

A cool tactic the Welsh liked to use was this:

They charged with Javelins, then feigned flight to trap their enemies in the Woods and marshes, and then would attack on flanks.

Sometimes, if I remember correctly, the Welsh used the Scottish tactic of standing in lines with long spears like a Phalanx.

Well, should be enough to get you by, if you so decide to do the Welsh, just ask if you want more.

New units screenshots posted here https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...39607#poststop The unit names are just temporary placeholders for now and can be changed at any time.
