I was quite naughty from time to time! There are ruder speeches in the system, btw.

And FYI, the length of the speech is related to the unit count for the battle: the more troops present, the more remarks your general will make concerning the coming battle. This made the actual process of writing everything quite difficult, because there was no single set template for the remark elements. I had to make allowance for the fact that a particular speech element might not always be in the same place and have predictable elements before and after it.

Gentlemen should exercise caution and wear stout-sided boots when using the Fintry-Kyle Escape Apparatus. Ladies, children, servants and those of a nervous disposition should be strongly encouraged to seek other means of hurried egress.

Hail to thee, noble Captain Fishpants.
Some of them are marvelously naughty, well done!

One thing though, in future could speeches be made to play during the setup phase? Quicker getting to a battle without missing the speech.

Never even realised this game had retained the speeches... Be it because they don't work for me, or more probably I've always been so hasty to "begin deployment" that the hero never had the chance to talk.

Well then you surely want to tell me why my Danish general says a one liner even when 2 stacks of 20 are battling each other while my English general will give 4-5 lines of text when only a total of 10 units are on the field?
Want gunpowder, mongols, and timurids to appear when YOU do?
Playing on a different timescale and never get to see the new world or just wanting to change your timescale?

...And why in the spanish version of M2TW, french are shy and haven't any speeches nor subtitles at all...

The 5 starter factions have more lines. I think Captain Fishpants was just saying that how long they go on for depends on how many men are in battle.

Both things were also true of RTW, AFAIK.

That was a decision taken in Oz. No idea why, nor whether it's going to be changed in the next patch. Sorry. Like mostly-beloved children everywhere, they don't write and don't phone their parents now that they're off doing stuff for themselves... sniff.

I think the "minor factions" all default to one-liner remarks, although the plan was (and speeches were written) for more speech chunks than were recorded.

Now that sounds like a translation-not-being-done problem. Aaargh!

Not really sapi, I remember all factions in RTW having a host of battle speeches, not just the romans.

Sadly that was also true of Rome: Total War. The three great Roman factions always seemed to say much more about the faction(s) they were fighting and the enemy's number compared to the other culture groups such as the Greeks and Barbarians. Also, unfortunately, some groups had "clone" speeches such as the Egyptians, Easterners and Carthaginians which, sadly, removed some variety. Although I do not own M2:TW, I would beleive that, from what I have seen, that the speeches have much more variety. Yet if the variety is of higher quality or not remains for me to see.

There is more variety of languages/cultures in M2tw so I would assume so.
    Like theres:
    English
    French
    Spanish/Portugal
    Eastern European etc
Not many factions share same accents so I assume not same speaches.

In localized (i.e. not English) versions only the faction which matches the localization (the HRE in Germany, for example) gets a full speech, all other factions just get one-liners.

I've given up hope for the Turks, I wait and wait, and it feels like they'll have a speech maybe 1 out of every 5 or 6 battles, and it's always one line, maybe two.

In the spanish version we got full and specific speeches for hre, italians, spanish, english, etc. It's true that when you play another factions just like danish, russians or muslims, speeches are one-liner mostly, but at least they tell something to their troops... But when you play French, their generals and captains are mute No speeches at all.
