    Default Bodyguard Question

I thought this would have been mentioned before but a search did not come up with anything.

What determines how many bodyguards are in a general's unit? They all seem to be different numbers and I know that they heal after battles but how long back to full strength? What is full strength?

    Normal 16 Prince 20 Leader 24.
+1 bodyguard for each point of personal security.

Note this applies to small unit sizes only.

How long it takes to get to full strength depends. Usually 3-4 turns if all bodyguards had been killed.

    Cool Thanks.

So unless they are healing, it should be 16,20,24 right? I never paid too much attention to it but it always seemed like every general/prince/king all had different bodyguard numbers even amongst themselves.

Ancilliaries can add personal security, so that would probably do it. Not sure if any other ancilliary attributes would. Be interesting if "veteran warrior" and those actually added one to the bodyguard though. One representing the ancilliary himself, I mean. (And a little frolicking fool beside the general, and an adultress behind him in the saddle, and a faithful pup at his side, and...)

Oh so thats what personal security is. I thought it had to do with how hard they were to assasinate.

    That too.
Still maintain that crying on the pitch should warrant a 3 match ban

Okay, if the guy representing the Ancilliaries trait dies, do you lose the Ancilliaries trait. Also, are you kidding about the adultress and dog on the side. I think you are but I am gulible.

If the ancilliary goes, the trait "attached" to it goes. But after looking at the file not sure the number of bodyguards isn't a specific trait. At least in one case it is. Personal security may play in. Should be easy to test by console use giving personal security traits to a general and waiting a couple turns for his bodyguard to replenish (if there's any new "room" in the bodyguard).

    Yes.
While 20 and 24 are base numbers for prince/leader, they get a security bonus from their title, which is why you see them as 22 and 27. In battle, they themselves take part too, so another +1.
