Default How to see the enemy? - perfect spy/MP campaign?

I want to see some of the details of enemy factions in a game I'm playing. I know about toggling fow off. Is there more you can do to get a good look at them?

I've heard of "perfect spy" mode in RTW (in the context of EB 0.81); is that just fow toggled off or is it more? If it is more, how do you implement it?

Also, has anyone done a MP script that allows you to take a savegame and switch to play another faction? I did that in RTW with Myrddraal's MP campaign script.

[The reason for this request is to not to cheat per se, but to get information I need to write a story for a PBM.]

Hmmm you mean see their treasury, profits, family tree etc? No idea how to.

If you just want to see all their units and general's stats in 1 turn, you can use character_reset on a spy and just look at everything.

No, Factionheir I really just want to see the assassin who killed Sigismund! Although for the story, it would be fun to see the vices and virtues of the assassin, his king and any nearby generals.

Then do as I said. Move a spy, in this case Sifridus and each time he expends his movement points, use "character_reset" to restore his movement and keep moving him around till you find the assassin. It helps to increase his subterfuge first using "give_trait" for NaturalSpySkill 3, GoodSpy 4, GoodConspirator 3.

Make sure you know the approximate location of Sigismund's death

Alternatively you can also use any normal character to find the assassin as moving over him or bumping into him reveals him too. Just for his traits etc you gotta use a spy

Isn't there a cheat called "control"? I remember faintly that you can enter "control rebels" into the shell. I always wanted to test if it works to enter say "control HRE" or sth. Don't take my word for it, I've nothing to back this up but my poor memory. This would enable you to switch between factions on the campmap like in MTW1.

That only works, iirc, if you enabled hotseat mode before playing, and it can cause unintended problems with regards to autoresolving battles.

As I said in my PM, you shouldn't have to do anything complicated at all. There is a spy within movement range of the assassin (who is just outside of Dijon to the west). Move him up there, reveal the assassin, and then spy on him. I was able to do that without any problems whatsoever, success rate of the spy is about 70%+.

I'm pretty sure you only have to enable hotseat mode right when you want to control the other faction, then load the game up. In fact I'm almost certain that I was reading about hotseating, and enabled it to see how Spain was doing in a campaign that had not started as hotseat. I don't remember the exact settings to enable it in the cfg file, but you can get them out of any of the various threads about controlling mongols/timurids.

As for actually getting control of the faction you want, let's use an example: English campaign, but you want to control Spain for the moment. You open the console and do this:

    "control spain"
    hit enter.
    "control england"
    hit enter.

Obviously don't type the quotes, they're only there to make explicitly clear exactly what you type into the console.

The control command toggles player control of the named faction, so the first line puts you in control of spain, and the second turns off your control of england. It wouldn't even be necessary to stop controlling your main faction for your purposes - you seem to be allowed to control as many factions at once as you wish, so when you hit end turn you'd end up controlling the spanish turn next. From there, you should be able to get any information your little heart may desire
