Post Need help with Mozilla Firefox

Not really for bug-solving type issue, but more like convenience or "missing feature". Take a look at two pictures below:

    Internet Explorer:

    Mozilla Firefox:

You can see the differences between IE and MF from the circled area, in Internet Explorer if you point your cursor to a website in history, it will show you the exact link or URL to that website (in this case About Google). While in Firefox it will show nothing but the title of the site, you have to click 'Work Offline' on the site name or right-click then left-click "Copy Link Location" and paste it somewhere just to find out what is the exact URL of the website I'm looking.

Now this may sound minor or not bothering to you, but after years of using Firefox I found this to be rather annoying and time-consuming. I mean when I have to view scholarly articles and online essays which has the same title on every of its pages, I can't find out directly in which part of website the certain topic exactly I'm looking for. In Internet Explorer, just a quick viewing with cursor will let me know which one...but too bad, I'd rather stick with Firefox.

Any ideas to solve this issue? Do you know Firefox plug-in to solve this, if there is any?

Thanks for the time, and especially any help...

Sorry, but I can't seem to find anything on the add-ons site. Apologies, yet I don't think there are any. However, perhaps you could make your own using the handy guides on this site. Good luck, cheers.

No need to apologise, Omanes. Thanks for your advise, although it will most likely a no-no for me to get into extension creation stuff, but I might look into it in the future. Cheers!

I welcome folks who knows any solution to this

I'm running straightforward Mozilla suite right now, so I can't verify Firefox's response, but in Mozilla, when you move your cursor over a link, the full URL appears on the status bar at the bottom of the browser window. I'm pretty sure Firefox does the same, but maybe not for links in the history frame.

I'm afraid Tran is quite correct about this. This has been one of my pet annoyances with Firefox. For example you see a huge list of "google" or "The Guild" one after the other, but mousing over them reveals nothing. Links give a tooltip with the same test as the link if the pane is two short and the text has been truncated otherwise they give nothing at all, and certainly not the URL. This has lead to me just not using the history in Firefox, except as a last resort.

The only method I've found is to right click and copy the link location, then past that into the address bar just to inspect it.

Caravel is 100% right. And it seems Firefox developer either ignore, think it's unimportant, or worse don't know if there's a useful feature like this in IE. The plug-in makers aren't different. By the way, does anyone know what's the proper English word for "this feature"? Maybe I can do a bit of search (although in the past it came with...nothing) or try to suggest the MF dev to take a look at this issue.

I'm not sure about your original issue, but if you sort by date and then by site, it's pretty easy to find what you're looking for (ie to find this thread just go to today > the guild > need help with....)

Ok I've found this extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/420/

Once you've installed it go to the history menu and click "History Manager" near the bottom. This gives you a much better history browser that you can use instead of the sidebar.

    Hope this helps.

    @sapi: Congratulation on your promotion!

Thumbs up Re: Need help with Mozilla Firefox

This might be late but thanks a lot Caravel for finding the extension. And a quick tip for easier surfing: To be able to view the history manager in new tab or sidebar (looked not properly though) go to View > Toolbars > Customize... and drag the 'Enhanced History Manager' into your Firefox Toolbar. Then, you can choose whichever view you wish.

Just my thought: It'll be better if it is somehow integrated into the history sidebar with IE look (the current EHM Sidebar looks improper) that way it'll be much simpler.

Still, it's much much better than without the extension.

No, I'm afraid that it doesn't show the address in the status bar.
