Lemur, Banquo's Ghost, and Pannonian have been posting a lot of genital mutilation stories lately, so it's got that going for it.

But it's still mainly politics, religion, and Bush/USA/Iraq.

Can't beat a bit of genital mutilation. Though the political commentary can be
equally amusing to observe at times.

Are you talking about the Backroom or genital mutilation? If the latter, are you speaking from personal experience?

I know what you mean. The trick with the backroom is to avoid such threads, as they are rarely worth getting into. Political issues are those which two parties will never agree on, no matter how much is debated. Certain aspects can be interesting, but once you get into the left vs right debates it's time to pull out.

Issues such as the Iraq war are the same. You will have one side with hundreds of reasons as to why the war is right and the other side with hundreds more as to why it's not. In the end they pretty much agree to disagree and no one is any the wiser as to if the war is right/wrong or somewhere in between.

The best threads in the backroom can be the ethical, religious or 'weird and wonderful' type of threads (basically the threads that are not strictly political and are not about recent military actions in the middle east). These have much more scope for discussion than the the political ones, and while they can be contentious subjects, everyone can voice an opinion.

    You're very cruel.

A model debate in the Backroom.
