I would say...Tercio Pikemen, they kill everything.

Leaving aside general's bodyguard, gotta be polish noble cavalry. Missile cav that will generally beat any other light cav in the game in hand-to-hand...what's not to like?

For me the best unit has got to be Jinettes, they are fast, have good attack and defence stats and are javelin armed.Brilliant for taking out enemy generals and heavy cav. And best of all they don't cost too much for cavalry and you can get them in both cities and castles

Jinetes are my favorite too. Availible from start to finish, they will never fail you.

Retinue longbows and elephant artillery are two of the few units that you can have a stack of 20 of and be able to defeat most any other army composition.

Besides, the elephant artillery looks cool :)
