    Default Seiges!

    What the hell is wrong with sieges in this game! It is stupid, one time I had a full stack in a citadel and the AI attack with 1/4 stack only peasant archers and one ram... and they win! How is this possible, why the hell did I lose!?

    I seem to have the complete opposite effect you have. With a few longbowmen I can cause the Mongolian hordes to come to a screeching halt. When their first ram lights afire, they mindless march back and forth getting slaughtered by my ranged attacks.


    Even when they do break down the gates, they all funnel into the gateway with horse archers, and right into my stakes that decimate them.


    Supposedly, the Seige AI and it's response to stakes will be fixed in the patch. Can't wait to see what will happen then.

    Alright, what kind of units are you using, what kind of units is the enemy using, and what are your tactics during the battle?

    I'm guessing they took his town square or so.
    Want gunpowder, mongols, and timurids to appear when YOU do?

    Still maintain that crying on the pitch should warrant a 3 match ban

    sounds like an autoresolve result to me

    when you auto resolve battles the castles defenses are not taken into account as far as i know.

    Yup, definitely sounds like autoresolve. That's why he doesn't know how he lost the battle.
    Defending a town/city using autoresolve isn't a smart thing to do. Personally I only use auto when it's that insignificant a battle I can't be bothered to do it myself. I would never autoresolve an important battle defending OR attacking, but auto'ing a city defense is just plain suicidal. You lose your defense bonuses.

    @XEHH II fight your battles, that's the cool thing about TW. You can outsmart your enemies instead of relying on rock/paper/scissors/numbers that auto will give you.

    Ok, i'll give more info, I have a full stack of pavise spearmen(10 units),Croat Axemen(2 units), Bulgarian Brigands(3 units) and Pavise Crossbow Malitia(5 units). My enemy had 5 units of peasant archers and 1 ram. I also had Cannon Towers and a Citadel. I did fight this battle but at the start the odds were 4:12 i don't know why.

    Did you actually fight it on the battlemap though?

    He might have lost because of the advantages that the AI gets in autoresolve battles on high campaign difficulties.

    Err what are pavise spearmen?!?

    If you modded your units and maybe added a 0 too much somewhere then that would explain it.

    Well, beleive it or not, I actually met people who always auto=resolved all battles during their campaigns...hehe...

    Had to spend few hours demonstrating the fun of commanding a battle manually :P

    If this is correct then you would have needed to work really hard to lose.

    Pavise Spearmen are the elite spearmen of Hungary. Same or similar stats to armoured spearmen, I believe.
    Still maintain that crying on the pitch should warrant a 3 match ban

    Ah, I never played Hungary so that striked me as odd as even the AI Hungary never built them (or never got to...)

    hmm didnt he say he fought the battle, if you did it must have been a clinic on bad decisions.

    just yesterday i held my small castle with 4 spear militia and 3 peasant archers vs frances 5 mounted sgts and like 8 units of infantry on vh... it was epic. the cav pushed my inf back like they were toothpicks but my spears held long enough to slaughter all the cav and everyone routed, they made a few more attempts after recovering, but my archers on the walls would shoot em with fire and they never made it back to the gate before routing

    Actually, with a few mistakes the situation he describes is sensibile IMHO.

    Cannon towers fire very slowly and are very innaccurrate against individual units so it's a near ceartantiy that the Ram made it to the gate, if he kept his units up on the wall so he could shoot them up a buit more then ran them down at the last minute he could have lost. Especially since troops emerging from the base of a tower fiht about as well as troops attacking a wall from a seige tower.

    He'd have still had to have been very unlucky and made a few more mistakes, but it is possibbile.

    Yes! I get the impression that there is something we are not being told about this seige, or about the state of the XehhII's installation.

    I noticed that on another thread he is claiming remarkable success in open battles, so something isn't quite right somewhere.

    I must admit (not proud of it though) that I sometimes autoresolve sieges (when I am sieging) when I have failed to seize the settlement by hand. Indeed I get remarkable victories with minimal losses when I have been slaughtered during the real deal.

    Reason are the battle odds.

    He would never in a normal game have 4:12 (which actually wouldn't show as that but as 1:3) with his army compared to 5 peasant archers.

    They require a citadel barracks to train, so they are rather late... And the hungarian AI focus on horsies and milita, so they are also very rare.

    yep mods, but why would you be purposefully using weaker units when you modded other units stonger unless he wanted a harder game in which he shouldn't be compaining about losing

    Maybe he couldn't get the same units over to his town in time. Obviously he only modded some units, not all.
