But what can we expect? I'm not really surprised or shocked: those school shootings seem to be(come) more and more normal in society.
Emotion, passions, and desires are, thus peace is not.
Emotion: you have it or it has you.

Aww common, we had these in Germany and the Netherlands as well. And how nice of you Ronin to care, it are only 22 people after all, shame on you.Originally Posted by currywurry

so what do you expect here exactly?Originally Posted by Fragony

even after the overwelming shock over columbine nothing was done....so I expect that nothing will come out of this one as well....
is what happened today good news? no of course not....but it has no effect in my life or in the lifes of anyone I know so why should I be greatly shocked? it is not like it is an unexpected or unforseen event....and frankly if something happens dozens of times and the US government doesn´t do anything about it...let´s just say my empathy starts to wear a little thin.

Apparently the first shooting was at 7:30 and the administration didn't cancel classes. Someone better get fired for that.
I guess it wasn't too thick to begin with.let´s just say my empathy starts to wear a little thin.
It's somewhat sad that your empathy for the victims and their relatives/friends is linked to the actions (or lack of the same) of the administrations... (at least that is how I would interpret your post - I hope that you actually do not mean it that way and that this is just your way of expressing your disagreement with the consequences taken by the responsible administrations)Originally Posted by Ronin

Yeahyeah, kudo's for being so casual about it, soooooo it happpened in germany and Holland as well, must be the MTV effect, and if you said that I would even agree. But maybe it is just a tiny bit bigger then the USA, can you imagine that.Originally Posted by Ronin
I thought this was strange, too... the two sets of shootings occurred 2 hours from each other...and, although this isn't very clear from what I've read, it seems there was one shooter, no ? What puzzles me is, how can someone shoot people in a campus, presumably some survivors are left to identify the shooter, police are called (I'm guessing, right ?!), and yet, two hours later, the shooter kills again...Originally Posted by Sasaki Kojiro
I would understand them having difficulty in finding him, but less so if he was already identified after the first shooting...
I dunno, it's all very strange... And yeah, not cancelling classes when a guy's on a shooting spree in your campus seems a bit....unusual.

Utterly horrifying news.
My thoughts are with the family and friends of the dead and injured.

I think we should give Ronin a break. People are dying all the time and my thoughts or even sympathies aren't with them either. Why isolate this shooting and suggest that is somehow particularly bad?
I wonder though, Ronin, what you think those 'causes' are and what could be done about them.

Four stage strategy from Yes, Minister:
Stage one we say nothing is going to happen.
Stage two, we say something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it.
Stage three, we say that maybe we should do something about it, but there's nothing we can do.
Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it's too late now.

What makes you think we don't care Ronin? Just because we don't strip our citizens of their guns? No, we love to see 22 students massacred on a University Campus.
I hope to God my best friend from high school and my two cousins are alright. They both go to VT.
We all make points. Didn't you say the perpetrator is an immigrant? That usually triggers your sympathy or indignation. None of your family or friends are involved, are they? Same goes for Ronin.Originally Posted by Fragony
Things change when people from this webforum are involved. I hate to hear that Ice's best friend and two cousins go there. Similarly, I pause to think whenever I hear about roadside bombs going off in Iraq because Kukrikhan's son and KafirChobee's family are over there. Just for a second, I admit.

Washington Post is reporting 32 dead, 24+ injured at the moment. I don't think the press or the police really know the scope of this yet. Shooter still unidentified.
