    Default My problem with burnout..

    Hey all,

I'm currently having trouble sticking with one faction for a number of reasons. Firstly, I can't stand playing any barbarian faction... I can't figure myself leading an army of barbs and their silly warcries.. AMEEENOOO BAROOOoooo

I think the issue is that factions get old after a few dozen turns. I mean, the Romans have reforms that refresh the player experience after awhile, whilst playing a Hellenic faction you can have access to the best units within maybe a hundred turns... and then have the same units for the entire length of the mod.

At the same time, Eastern factions have to traverse such huge distances (I've tried playing Bactria, but it's soooo far from one city to the other that it makes it kind of slow sometimes, that and the little icons copied straight off of Alexander the movie that make me think, mmkay)

Any tips on a faction to try? I've been playing mostly KH, and Epeiros (for some reason the Maks don't inspire me as much.. must be the black color that turns me off) I'm also terribly afraid of playing passively, then having 5-10 stacks of barbs to face every turn.. help!

This aint a rant, I love this mod (i think its pretty obvious) I just want to know how I can put more sense into a faction once I get all the units they offer and start fighting Seleucia which is impossible to defeat.

    Best,

    BB

Try Pahlava, whit its cavalery armies its not that far. And if you decide to raide a more populated area like Anatolia, whit such armies you can jum from a city to a city befor the enemy knows what hapend.

And the Aedui, Arveni and Casse have reforms as well. Although their still static.

I don't get these kinds of topics.

You are in luck my friend...https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showp...61&postcount=9

Alternatively, for this individual case, I recommend to play Rome or Carthage.

Well I'd recommend Epieros but they get kinda boring after awhile. I've never tried the steppe factions excluding Parthia so maybe you can give them a shot?

I auto_win a lot of battles, this way they don't get redundant. I only fight the ones that are going to be a challenge, or fun or interesting.

Hit the end turn button. Don't spend too long micromanaging all your cities. When your empire gets big, this can take forever, and you end up losing the character development part of the game, which is really great in this mod.

Try Carthage. I'm having a blast with them now, and have in the past. The are pretty complete and have very diverse traits for their generals. but the best part is the use of merc armies.

i personally have in my army as follows:

This is my "base" army which i build upon.
1 General (based on amount of influence because it's all politics)
    (maybe 1 young general protege)
2-3 spear men (liby-Phoenician or just liby)
2 heavy spear men (liby-Phoenician or just liby)
1 citizen militia (not for battle, just for the town garrison)
    and then the fun begins...

This is my "outsourced" which builds upon my "base".
maybe 2 numidian skirmishers or maybe 2 peltasts
Iberian or Greek or Carthaginian calvary
    maybe some Gallic troops?
maybe some sick Iberian assault troops or scrutarii?
    Italian spear men?
    elephants or catapults?

man i am having fun just imagining my crazy diverse armies! (i...must...go..play..yes Eb, master, I am coming!)

I do try to keep my armies around 1000 men or less. (on large)

I disband all mercs before sailing back to Carthage. I never keep them, they are mercs right?

it really matters where my army is geographically, They deploy from Carthage with just the base army and then i utilize any merc troops i can scrounge up on site. It seems this is what happened historically.

This way every battle is unique. when playing as other factions my armies always followed a historical plan so every battle was the same and predictable.

I have to use different tactics each time. It keeps the game very exciting. I can role play a bit with it,too. With Carthage i role play as merchant politicians who sometimes have to do the dirty work of battle. because the populace of Carthage was not willing to fight as much as other factions i use as few native troops as possible and "outsource" my armies as much as possible. I just can't stand to see my people die in battle when i could pay other people to do it!

    or Phalangitai DeuterTOOOOYYYY!!!

I have to say that Saka Rauka is quite fun and I'm basing my AAR on it (Shamless self promotion ) but the calvary make it quite easy to conquer those distances

Play Seluecia, Ptolemies or Pontos and you'll meet the (excellent) Jewish spearmen with the horrid sing-song unit call.

Hehe, thanks for the tips guys. WHat do you mean you never get these posts? Im just interested in what other people try to get off one faction and make sure it doesn't get dull in the long term which seems to be the problem..

    Thanks again

Sorry, I should have been more polite. Pretty rough time.

Personally I've enjoyed every faction I've tried without much effort. Only thing I can recommend is to take it slowly. I usually built up my money reserves, armies and infrastructure (without too many money-boosting things such as mines) for quite a while before launching a campaign with fixed generals and goals. After that, the process started again in new areas. Doing this allows the AI time to develop while creating a nice feeling of taking generals on proper campaigns.
