I understand the shield bug but what is up with the two handed bug? I tried searching but the search options suck here and it was more hard than it should have been.

Work, Girlfriend, Responsibilities, Reality, Kids, and MTW - all things in life make life worth living.
Edit October 17th, 2007
Work-Still hate it but I appreciate having it more now.
Girlfriend - ? - looks like I am helping Nga now. Miss sex though.
Responsibilities, Too many bills to too little money
Reality - (Censored)
Kids - My son is improving a little bit each day, still far behind but I may have more kids in the future.
MTW - Kingdoms installed but...Urggg, too soon.
----------------
Conclusion, Life is worth Living now.
Units with the "2H Axe" animation, which includes bill and pollaxe users, cannot attack cavalry in a standing melee.
Furthermore their attack animation is very slow, which forces them to parry incessantly over the course of a battle.
Spearwall polearm, Eastern halberd and 2H sword units do not have this problem.
To give an example (which is by no means perfect) from my own experiences:
Step 1: Send 4 units of Varangian Guard against a rebel town (fighting militiamen)
Step 2: Climb to top of walls. Take 10% casualties in approach
Step 3: Watch the varangians get not one kill as they are slaughtered![]()
From wise men, O Lord, protect us -anon
The death of one man is a tragedy; the death of millions, a statistic -Stalin
We can categorically state that we have not released man-eating badgers into the area -UK military spokesman Major Mike Shearer
So this includes norse axemen, but not janissaries then? What about woodsmen?
List of units affected by the bug:
Dismounted English Knights
Dismounted Noble Knights
Dismounted Portugese Knights
Free Company Men-At-Arms
Gallogiach
Gallogiach Mercs
Woodsmen
Croat Axemen
Tabardariyya
Mutatawwi'a
Billmen
Bill Militia
Heavy Billmen
Heavy Bill Militia
Norse Axemen
Varangian Guard
Berdiche Axemen

Ghazi? Don't they have only one axe? Or do you mean the other-jihad-unit-who-cannot-be-spelled?
Still maintain that crying on the pitch should warrant a 3 match ban
Ah those guys, i knew it was one of the Jihad units.

So VHI are not affected? I always thought they were, but I've not play Venice yet.
I think the name of that jihad unit affected was mutatawwia or something like that. I'm missing an apostrophe I bet.
I'm not quite certain whether 2H sword units might also be affected but only on walls or whether it was just the defense bonus wall units get as sending 4 units of dismounted gothic knights up a wall using 2 siege towers resulted in them getting slaughtered by 2 units of highland archers that waited there. The knights certainly didn't seem like attacking when I zoomed in.

Ah ok, I thought they used a polearm like the english/noble/portuguese knights. Only ever saw them in the faction selection screen

The leaked 1.2 patch apparantly fixes it, so presumably the final version will as well. Until then, dodge using those units listed above.Originally Posted by Anti-TotalWar
Mostly I find the listed troops are reasonably effective against other infantry, however as stated they are spectacularly useless against cavalry...
Try this, one unit of border horse (scots) and one unit of maxed out heavy Billmen (english)... You control the horse men and at the start of the battle turn your horsemen to face away from the billmen and await their charge. You will lost some horses on the charge but then speed up time and watch your horsemen kill the rest of the billmen while taking no further casualties...
Either that, or download a mod that fixes the bug.Originally Posted by Calavera

probably best to use the leaked patch, it may mean a reinstall butits an actual fix instead of just swapping another animation thing for another or using the gold demo thing or something and something and something lolOriginally Posted by Afro Thunder

So those useless and overrated Transylvanian peasants with halberds are not affected then? Trust it to be the only ineffectual 2H unit to not be affected.Originally Posted by Lusted

They aren't spectacular against infantry even. Back in my Spanish game, defending Jerusalem against a jihad, I had a couple of units of Unhorsed Knights in the garrison. In one particular fight, a unit of those unhorsed knights came up against a unit of Tabardariyya in the streets, well away from the walls so no tower missiles came into play. Both units charged, neither unit got any help. The unhorsed knights lost about 20 men and killed the Tabardariyya to the man. The axemen spent the majority of their time parrying blows from swords.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.
It looks like CA only fixed the cavalry part and neglected to increase attack speed. If the bug were completely fixed the Tabs would still lose but not so disastrously.Originally Posted by Quillan
For now it seems 2H Axe units are best used for flank attacks only, not for frontal assaults.
Nah they do better against infantry as well post-1.2. Having the extra attack animations helps them a lot.

I find it Ironic that 5 of those on the list are from England. Also can Scots recruit Gallogiach? Cause in my last campaign as them (Highlanders rule!) I only had Highland nobles as my main base of infrantry and never saw the Gallogiach as anything but Mercs.Originally Posted by Lusted
You get rebel Gallogiach and merc Gallogiach, they're seperate units in the unit file.
