Thread: I want my Joan d'Arc!

  1. #1

Default I want my Joan d'Arc!

    Just a minor wish.

I mentioned this in my wish list, but I'd love to hear what others think.

I want female generals. Maybe use a princess model, etc...

Has a modder done this, or even thought about it?

I know, women's place, blah blah, but it's just COOL.

Maybe give em an instant heresy hit, or something. Of course it removes em from the princess roster. (And you'd have to make certain that the code doesn't let them Marry. Unless of course you WANT the Ellen show: maybe treat em like a bribed general...)

Just a thought. I would love it as a RARE thing to show up...

Anybody else want this, or think it's lame?
You know the Scots have a martial art. It's Called Fok YE! But it's mostly headbutting and kicking people when they're down.

    Female generals would be nice.
They could have a very rare spawn rate or something.

Nice idea. But portraits can be created with a touch of skill, talent and will.

The Pope is my campaign is female though.

Probably wouldn't be too tough to make hirable female generals.
All you'd have to do is make a custom model and soundset (i.e. look at old RTW mods doing stuff like that, although adjust for female) and add the unit as trainable in the descr_buildings and the descr_unit.

As for family tree, I guess even that would be possible, as there is a trigger in one of the files (forgot the name) that determines whether a faction can have princesses or not. Just make the game spawn a different avatar with the general capabilities there. (that might be tougher to do and you'd only get them for direct descendants of leaders/heir as per current rules)

Female generals would not be realistic because in the middle ages the women were not in such an important place in the society

I'm guessing just about as realistic as the SecretlyFemale trait for priests who can go on to become popes.

Not all generals, but all important. And that's just off the top of my head. As a RARE spawn, could add some fun flavor.

(Especially if they had access to some of the "Princess' only traits. Might be interesting, especially if you could raise one to faction heir, and use their "Charm" stats as bonuses for authority.)

    Not really.
I think Joan D'Arch is the only one but don't quote me on that.
I just think it would be a nice touch to have given the fact that it would be a rare thing.

People, please, it's either Jeanne D'Arc or Joan of Arc. Get it right

And she was in MTW the first, as a fairly competent general too (7 stars IIRC). Historical characters, as opposed to to ancilliaries, is something I really miss from the first game.

(Pretty sure I misspelled Eleanor's name too...)

Just checked. Yup. Misspelled Aquitaine as well.

True, but there are major exceptions. There should be a reference to Hildegard von Bingen. She was a very powerful woman in her day, even if she was not a general.

She's already in the game. Build a church or higher religious building as the HRE between turn 20 and 50, and you'll get her.

Sheesh. People should start exploring what's in the game before they say "this should really be in the game!"...

Joan of Arc is an ancillary too, but she only appears under certain conditions and it is quite hard to get her

Lightbulb Re: I want my Joan d'Arc!

Women did wield considerable power behind the scenes then, as they do today.

There were at least 8 Muslim women who were directly controlling empires through their sons or husbands/lovers, during the period set in the game. Not sure but IIRC, Yemen also had a queen during this epoch.

    Cool quote I just read:

"King of England, and you, duke of Bedford, who call yourself regent of the kingdom of France...settle your debt to the king of Heaven; return to the Maiden, who is envoy of the king of Heaven, the keys to all the good towns you took and violated in France."

attributed to Joan of Arc here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_of_Arc

Ok, I stand corrected. However, I have not played HRE yet and was totally unaware of Hildegard's inclusion in the game. This is a very substantial game with a lot of hidden surprises, so please don't put people down just because they haven't played all the factions yet!

I agree. I would like to see female warriors or mercs. Maybe a female looking assassin.

Don't forget the greatest female general of all... Xena the Warrior Princess. Although, she's probably better for RTW.

And women spies could be easier to use because they could seduce the target and then finish him off in sleep.

Didn't mean to offend, but you really should have checked if she was in the game or not before you stated that she wasn't ;)

There's so incredibly much of this stuff, the manual would become a tome! Not a bad idea of course, but I don't really see CA selling a 500-page game manual...

She's the only one to come to mind as a general, (possibly Matilda, she certainly organised an army, but I doubt if she fought) but more frequent were female faction leaders, queens, even if they didn't actually fight battles.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned Margaret of Anjou, she pretty much ran the show when Henry VI went mad in the War of the Roses.

Some women did indeed occassionally come out in public and show their power, but the majority didn't to my knowledge and stayed mostly behind the scenes.

The odd female general would be fairly interesting in truth.
