Default What are the population cut offs for settlement upgrades?

In RTW, the settlement screen would tell you what population level would lead to the next settlement upgrade (town to large town etc). IIRC, they were 2000, 6000, 12000 and 24000 or thereabouts. Does anyone know what the corresponding cut-offs are in M2TW?

    They're listed in the manual.

If you somehow lost it, simply mouse over a settlement's population and it'll tell you what's needed for the next upgrade.

The formula for determining the # of turns until it is ready to upgrade is as follows:

    # of turns = ceiling(ln(target population/current population)/ln(1 + growth %))

    Example:

    Current Population: 12345
    Current Growth Rate: 4.5%

    ln(24000/12345)/ln(1 + 0.045) = 15.1
    ceiling(15.1) = 16

It will take 16 turns to become huge stone wall-eligible.

If I do the mouseover in one of my Citadels, it gives the next upgrade at 12000 inhabitants. Does anything actually happen when I reach that number?

There was a time when I used to read manuals. I confess I can't even remember what the M2TW one looks like. I should dig it out.

Hell, I wouldn't even have the manual there if the CD-Key wasn't printed on the back of it.

Why the practice of putting it on the CD case itself has disappeared I don't know - as it is I have to do a search for the manual whenever I have to install a game

As a town grows so does squalor and squalor decreases growth, hence your formula wouldn't be quite correct me thinks.

Philbert: nothing. They just had to put something there.

Of course it will never be 100% correct as it assumes you will take the appropriate steps to maintain a reasonable growth rate, like building farm upgrades, lowering taxes, etc.

But it'll still give a good idea of the timescales involved in settlement growth.

Yeah, this is assuming that the growth rate percent remains constant, and a lot of times it doesn't.
