Wife is a Wretch! v1.2 Fixes it!

In my Denmark Campaign, I started out a turn as regular, and got a princess... unfortunately it wasn't the 5 charm beauty I was hoping for, instead I got Hallerna the Snob. I was thinking of the easiest way to get rid of this wretch because I sure wasn't going to bother increasing her charm, so I thought if I married her to a foriegn general, she'd disappear of the family tree and I could entertain the idea that she'd never existed. I found a sucker in Russia, a Yaroslav Zavidov. I only had a 15% chance to nab him, but surprisingly he agreed to marry the wretch, I couldn't have been more happy, Thinking that she would no longer be on the family tree. So I decided to look and see what the family tree now looked like. Not only was my princess still there, Mr Zavidov was there too!

It looks like the leaked patch now fixes the problem of the princesses stealing generals by marriage, then disappearing off the family tree!

Now I just wish I'd married off another princess instead of that wretch to him....

You can now send your princesses that are agents, and marry them off to other factions generals, and they are successful in luring him, they will now both be on your family tree, instead of both disappearing off it

That's even worse really. Historically, the princesses went to the faction she got married into, not the general comes into yours!!!

I have to explain this more then. When you go to a diplomacy with another faction with one of your princesses and that factions heir is single and you marry that princess to the factions heir she will become a part of that family.

HOWEVER...

In this game, I stress, game here, The Princess agents can steal enemy generals and they can become a part of your family. There are different outcomes when a princess agent attempts this.

1. She succeeds and the General decides that it would be more fun being a part of your family and so he comes over to your side. (I'd like to note that the faction you steal him from doesn't like you doing that at all and your relations with that faction will suffer)
2. She really likes him and decides it would be better to join his family, and you lose both of them.
3. He rejects her proposal, upsetting her greatly.

Its not really worse because historically Generals probably would have joined another army if they were offered to become part of the royal family in a big empire! ( It's a different way of bribing a general that you want which is more likely to succeed and bring you lots of happy little generals and princesses afterwards too, without having to spend tens of thousands of florins)

There was a bug with this though, when the general accepted and he became a general in your army, he and his bride didn't appear on the family tree (even though he was in your faction on the map), when they should have, it seems they have fixed this bug in the 1.2 patch.

What you seem to be talking about is diplomatic marriages which this isn't about, its more about the stealing generals mission actually works now, instead of both the princess and general disappearing off your family tree, they are now on your family tree. However if she does decide to run off with the general they both won't be on the family tree.

I hope this clears it up for you edyz.

I could understand if my princess decide to follow her new husband and disapear from my family tree. But why would the enemy general disappear as well?? If this is intented or merely a bug?

Note that the princess can't steal Family Members only unmarried generals...

To be honest I didn't realise this was broken, unless the mod I am playing with fixes it somehow...

I often steal the HRE starting generals...

@ Rickooclan, the Enemy General doesnt join your army at all if he seduces her, she marries him and so they marry in the faction you were trying to steal him from.

@ Bob, The Princess can steal Family Members and Generals, as long as they are unmarried. I did this with my danish princess to a Hungarian Family Member in about turn 201 (I can provide screenshot/savegame if you wish). I seriously doubt this was a Starting General that wasn't in the Hungarian Family Tree ;). The problem was that if you did marry the princess to the general/family member she and he would still be in your faction but not in your family tree, and now they appear correctly.

I would never have noticed this bug; the family tree gets checked by me once every 100 turns or so. As long as I have the general on the board to use, that's pretty much all I care about. Bugs in the family tree seem like the lowest priority possible things to be fixing.

every 100 turns? (do you really play that much M2TW? ) I check it fairly often, depending on whats going on. It isn't a high priority bug, but when you have generals turning up out of nowhere that aren't on your family tree it messes things up a bit and if its a good general you want to provide good traits for sons down the line, well you won't even know if hes had any kids. I guess this isn't a high priority fix, but thats a rather attitude to be taking, at least its been fixed, and if you do like your family trees its better

I would have never noticed the shield bug, or the 2HD animation bug, but someone did, I guess it depends where you really concentrate on in the game, I concentrate more on empire building than the battles, I enjoy them as a side dish if you could say that.

The comment about it being the lowest possible priority fix is rather irrelevant considering that they had a list of bugs or things to fix for 1.2, and they attempted to fix as many of those as possible. As it stands now theyre trying to make sure the siege AI is no longer passive, so I don't know what this remark is in aid of.

hehe actually I've been getting some decent princesses with the leaked 1.2 patch, I actually got one of my faction heirs to marry a Byzantine Princess with 9 charm.... I was positively stunned, It cost me about 20k to get them to agree to let my prince marry her, but it was worth it!, I've mainly seen level 5 charm princesses, although recently theres only been 1-2 charm princesses about, seems to change during the years. But yeah, with 1.0/1.1 the princess trait triggers are broken and so thats why you get snobs after the starting princesses. You can still get princess snobs but it is no way near as bad as 1.0/1.1, hmm don't know why you've had such bad luck then?

Was the father of the princess still alive? The bug only occurs when a princess marries in that fashion after the father dies. If the father is still alive on the family tree, then the princess will show up underneath with her new hubby.

As for the historical backing of it...I can think of at least one instance where they male half of the arrangement changed nationalities...anybody remember William of Orange & Queen Mary? I'm sure there's others, but that's the first one that came to my mind...

That's because of three things:

1. The triggers are related to the treasury, you have a chance of getting it when the treasury is at 75000, and you only need 30000 to get it at birth. Thus, rich factions easily get it.
2. It's a selfperpetuating trait.
3. There are only two levels of the trait, and the trshold or the second level is 2. Combined with 2, it means the trait is VERY easy to max out.

Isabella and Ferdinand (in order of their "seniority"). Castille was the senior partner there. That actually resulted in merging the two "factions," however, which we cannot do.

Well you won't know if theyve had any kids, until you get a 'comes of age' thing out of the blue that you wern't expecting.


Yes the father was alive at the time of the incident, I could reload and kill him off and see if she still stays on the family tree? Interesting so the bug works that way? I thought it was just that they wouldn't get on your family tree at all at least thats what happened to me in v1.1 when I was stealing a Polish fmaily member, he didn't appear ont he family family tree and my princess had disappeared too, but he was in my faction.

You're sometimes expecting to have a kid come of age? I have to admit, I never am, they always take me by surprise, LOL. I guess that just goes to show the wide variety of play styles we all have in this game.

For me at least, family planning only goes as far as marrying the men to the first candidate, and the women to a useful general/governor. It never seemed important to plan for a son to come of age: I use whatever generals I have, and assign new ones to do stuff when the game tells me I have them. Is there some reason I should keep better track of the kids if I don't particularly enjoy doing so? I would probably be doing it if I was convinced there was some strategic importance to it...

Start a new campaign, due to the trait fixes in 1.2 you'll only really see the changes in a new campaign.

All it does is make it possible at the princess creation to have higher charm (or lower depends on what traits you get). If you marry a charm 0-2 princess you still get WifeIsHorrid.

Matty: You don't need to start a new campaign. VnV fixes from 1.1 to 1.2 work perfectly. I've tested it on my end extensively.

Alright well it doesn't fix the wife is a wretch thats just an intended part of the game, I was just trying for a different title that was related to my original post and what I was oging to talk about.

However in 1.2 Princesses are generally much better, even the AI gets some decent ones, I just ended my Denmark Campaign after 226 turns and the Byzantines just had a princess called Zoe the Beautiful. Although if the faction has had back luck generally with breeding (which we can't tell cause we can't see their family trees) then they probably won't see great princesses unless one line of family dies out and another assumes control of the kingdom. My Youngest son just recently born who is the next heir to the throne when the current king dies, got the trait 'A bit Odd'

Oh and @ Foz, I like knowing when my faction heirs heirs are going to come of age, because I normally plan a completely regrettable accident where the unfortunate king gets ambushed by a large enemy army and unfortunately does not survive. I then send the new king and prince on a Crusade to get command, chivalry, score some points with the pope and a large sack of loot to boot. Also if there is a very pretty princess within another faction I arrange her to marry the new heir to the throne :)

'A bit Odd' is an inbreeeding trait, the first one which can lead down to the path of somewhere you (probably :P) don't want to go.... fortunately if I ever decide to continue the game I have the holy prepuce which should counter that traits effects...

I'm playing Vanilla 1.1 and this never happens. If the father, who has to be a faction leader or faction heir to even get a princess to start with, is still alive when the marriage takes place, it always shows up on my family tree. If he is dead, leaving the princess still roaming around, that's when they will not appear.

But, that is my own experience.

This is my family tree. Faction leader is still alive and both princesses are married. Spain starts with two of them but the picture only shows one.

That's interesting, because I have never had it become an issue when the father was alive. And I check every time I get a general through marriage.
