Default Family tree in 1.2 ?

Haven't got 1.2 yet but I wonder about what happens to married princesses and their General-Husbands ? Do they still disappear from the family tree ?

At the present in 1.1, of 16 family members only 8 are figured in the family tree married generals are absent and their whole descendance and adoptees are missing so that I often get heir coming of age out of the blue...Annoying to sa the least...

So, has it been fixed ?

Also, is it possible to choose your heir in 1.2 ?

Haven't played a christian faction in 1.02 yet, so can't tell. I remember the annoyance in 1.01 though where the offspring would even have random lastnames.

As for choosing heir, nope, not in. Wish it was. I think they didn't implement it because of the "marry princess to faction heir" function that could be abused?

Yes, they appear on the family tree, together with any offspring.

Holy Occam's razor, Batman ! You know, I didn't even think about it that way once. Makes a lot of sense to forcefeed us our heirs then, especially in 1.2 in which princess alliances are sturdy as rocks.

Yeah, that's definitely got to be it. It's so obvious that I'm amazed I never read about it or thought about it before now. The best solution would have been to allow changing of faction heirs, but make such a shift break any marriage alliances based on marriage to someone who is no longer heir. I bet that's not doable with the current game engine though.

In this game a good news is always followed by a bad news (like the 1.2 snafu...)

    Anyway, so be it...

It is a pity you cannot choose your own heir. Would lessen a few of my problems. They could set the system up to once your faction leader dies/next prince is crowned you can choose your next faction heir then and only then. Would keep off the marriage alliance abuse.

Or as stated before, break or weaken the marriage alliance if the Heir is disinherited in favor of a new Heir...

Actually a better way would be to simply make it that if you do have a marriage alliance on your current heir, you cannot change your heir until you got a single heir again. Whether to include noble marriage as well or only princess marriages is a good question.

I don´t think it so bad that you can´t choose the heir, I can´t recall to have ever done it in RTW. What really bugs me is the mess that results if your heir has no children of age when he becomes king. Then the sucession just seems to run amok through the family tree.
Not that it matters that much for gameplay purposes, it just looks extremely untidy and weird.
The only way to bring the sucession back in line is to deliberately kill off the out-of-line heir.

Which just made me realize why units don't take up population when they're created, or get added up to population when disbanded anymore (beside the unit cap deal) : it would make it too easy to pump up a castle's slow-growing pop with militia from the nearest metropolis...

As far as I can tell, all of the generals I have "stolen" with princesses appear on my family tree. Also, all of my marriage alliances proeprly show, too.

However, I have had ONE strange experience that I have never seen before. Sometimes, when trying to marry a princess to a general, she will be "disgraced" and leave your court to enter the other faction. Wel, I had the reverse happen. I got a notice saying that another faction's princess was "disgraced" and married into my family, thus entering my court. However, I can't find her anywhere on my family tree.

    There is one way...

    1. Open console.
    2. Select the person you wish to be FactionHeir
    3. "give_trait this Faction Heir" (not sure if there is a space in between).
    4. Send off old faction heir to sink at sea, or kill him in a battle.

    New Faction Heir.

Also I don't remember now but you can also do "remove_trait this Faction Heir" but I don't think it counts, can't remember. Will repost if I do.
If you remember me from M:TW days add me on Steam, do mention your org name.

OK in my Sicily campaign I tried snatching generals and they get into the family tree just fine. All their offspring get a random last name though, which is annoying/weird.

True but better than them not appearing at all :)
