    Default 10 Favourite Songs

I like lists. Lists make me happy. Fairly self-explanatory title.

    1. One For the Vine - Genesis
    2. Pictures of a City - King Crimson
    3. Telegraph Road - Dire Straits
    4. The Musical Box - Genesis
    5. Tarkus - ELP
    6. Old Wild Men - 10cc
    7. Epitaph - King Crimson
    8. Without You - Asia
    9. Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits
    10. Anyway - Genesis

A few other close candidates - The opening of 'Dancing With the Moonlit Knight' by Genesis (along with The Light Dies Down on Broadway and maybe Firth of Frith)
Two by Steve Hackett - Ace of Wands and Lost in Time in Cordoba.
Wall Street Shuffle would be on there if it stayed at the level of the opening.
Something by Pink Floyd, but I haven't listened to it enough to decide which is my favourite.
Moonchild (the most stunningly beautiful opening to any song. ever.) and 21st Century Schizoid Man by King Crimson.
Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits
Break on Through - The Doors

I don't expect everyone else to have this weird a list.

Just as they come to mind, not a top ten really:

    1. Van Morrison - It's all over now baby blue
    2. R.E.M. - The one I love
    3. U2 - The hands that built America
    4. Bruce Springsteen - Born to run

    6. Rolling Stones - Wild horses
    7. Die Ärzte - Zu spät
    8. David Bowie - Absolute Beginners
    9. Dead Can Dance - Severance
    10. is a placeholder for all the others that come to mind now and I can't decide which one to put here. Aargh... I'll have to spend the night with my CD collection... it's all coming back...

How about a list of songs that come to mind that I like for a variety of reasons:

    Classical:
Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D - JS Bach
    Waldstein Sonata - Beethoven
    Waterfall and Torrent Etudes (Opus 10, 1 & 4) - Chopin
    Hungarian Rhapsody #6 in D-flat - Liszt
Adagio for Strings - Samuel Barber

    Rock, etc.:
    Killer Queen - Queen
The Great Gig In the Sky - Floyd
    Your Song - Elton
    Black Dog - Led Zeppelin
Shining Star - Earth, Wind and Fire
    Magnum Opus - Kansas
There and Back - Jeff Beck (w/Jan Hammer)
Rhythm of the Heat - Peter Gabriel
    Bad Motor Scooter- Montrose
    Egypt - Kate Bush
    Firecracker - Yellow Magic Orchestra
    Visions in Blue - Ultravox
    Bad - U2
    Wasted Time - The Eagles
    Opinions - The Fixx
    Ethnicolor - Jean Michel Jarre
Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder
    Oh L'Amour - Erasure
If Only For a Moment - Missing Persons
    Still They Ride - Journey
Three Little Birds - Bob Marley
Miryea's Death - Soundtrack, Revenge, Tommy Tedesco, Bradford Ellis
Budapest by Blimp - Thomas Dolby
Something i can never have - NiN

Sorry, but only ten songs out of over 1200 LPs/CDs over 30+ years ... just can't seem to do it.

In no particular order, I guess. Really just songs that still get regular rotation, you can't really keep track of which ones you like at any given time.

Seasons in the Abyss - Slayer
Hooker with a Penis - Tool
Hey Man Nice Shot - Filter
    Sabotage - Beastie Boys
    Just One Fix - Ministry
    Landfill - Pitchshifter
    Black Sunshine - White Zombie
    Rude Awakening - Prong
    Lysergia - Velvet Acid Christ
Big Man With a Gun - Nine Inch Nails

Yeah, they are old songs. It's a shame the music industry is such a shambles these days. [geezer]Back in myyyyy day, we had to walk uphill, both ways, in 3 feet of snow to a record store to get the music we liked. And we did it because the music was good![/geezer]

Such a hard question... really hard. Especially because I love so many songs in such different kinds of music.. I'll give it a try though. about making a specific order - way too hard. I'll just put the first that comes to mind on top.

Genesis - Follow You Follow Me
    Metallica - Nothings Else Matters
Phil Collins - You Can't Hurry Love
Muse - Map Of The Problematique
    Deep Purple - Burn
Culture Beat - Mr Vain (Just had to have one of the true classic 90's dance in the list, sorry)
Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonight
    Genesis - Entangeled
    Genesis - The Cinema Show
Linkin Park - In The End

More come to mind, lots of Linkin Park, lots of Genesis, a couple by muse, a couple by phil collins, dozens of great 90''s dance songs, dozens of trance songs (DJ tiesto, delerium etc) but I shall stick to only 10.
    - Chu - Gi - Makoto - Rei - Jin - Yu - Meiyo -

    Eugh... Waters/Gilmour? So tacky...

My top 10 shifts almost daily, but I guarantee you that Gilmour and Waters are never anywhere near the top.

Syd Barrett, on the other hand, is my favorite artist. And I apologize if I offend your age and taste, Gawain, but the other members of The Pink Floyd were musical buffoons (aside from Wright; and granted, Atom Heart Mother has some great psych-folk, and Saucer, More and Umma-Gumma weren't bad... well, basically, in general, anything after AHM blows, in my opinion.) But, in general, my favorite songs are written by/ originate from:

Syd/ old Floyd (nothing past '70)
    the Jefferson Airplane
a myriad of modern psychedelic bands (might I suggest The Black Angels and The Dolly Rocker Movement?)
    The Mamas and The Papas
    Creedence
    old folk/country/bluegrass
    BLUES
and some Frank Zappa I have been recently exploring.
