Hell in England I slept in a bed that was 1.60 long and in Italy it was the small, but luckely it was a bed for two persons so I could use it diagonally.
In Rome even my girlfriend was longer than most Italian men, not to speak of the small women.
I know what you are talking about... Here in Norway my 1.83m is not really that tall.

If you look at my contribution in the "nations you have visited" thread, the two places that I really felt tall was in Scotland and Malaysia.
In Scotland they said: "a'right big man, Hau ar yu?"
I am not fat even though my BMI is nearly 30 (obese); have these test never heard of muscle?

Also on the double deckers (bus) at the first level I had to stoop and my shoulders/back brushed the ceiling when walking down the isle, and there were never enough room for my knees when seated.
