Thread: I can't play this campaign because of "agents"

    Default I can't play this campaign because of "agents"

    This is one of those inexplicable problems with the game that seems minor at first glance, but becomes very significant as you get into the game. The #@%@#$ agents have a slow walk animation and even slower proposal animation (when half the time they're not even proposing anything, just attempting to bribe). It adds absolutely nothing to the game, but I'm sick of spending literally over a whole minute after every turn in the Teutonic campaign waiting for all the priests and diplomats to finish their business.

    Ironically this was a problem in MTW as well, where games with a lot of area exposed became an orgy of priests milling about, but at least there you could turn off "show computer moves".

    you can turn off show computer moves and if it's your agent then you just click the mouse to speed them up

    You can do that in this too. Its on the faction select screen, amongst other places.

    Except for diplomats and princesses (during AI turns) who still play their animations ever so slowly.
    Usually I end up training assassins for every settlement to eliminate those annoying agents.

    I wonder what the point of having a princess/diplomat move onto your settlement every single turn is really. It doesn't seem to add anything to the game, and they usually are not trying to bribe (if they try to bribe, they do it once max and then move on). Considering princesses cannot bribe (or at least player controlled ones cannot), what is their constant animation for at your settlement which has either no governor or a married one?

    Exactly, I'm saying that the animation is too slow with "fast move" already ON.

    Admittedly I've never noticed the "show computer moves" option on the faction selection screen, but it is surely there!

    Yes, there's a "show computer moves" option. Turn it off.
    For you units, press spacebar or keep left-clicking to make them move faster. It doesnt work if they r doing an action, e.g. attacking, proposing etc.

    When the AI assassins are eating too much showtime, i will surround and squash them.

    open up your prefrences file and look for this bit ...

    campaign_map_game_speed = 99
    campaign_map_speed_up = 0
    campaign_num_time_play = 55

    change the "speed" of the 2nd setting to 99, iirc that should boost the AI-processing in the AI-turns (after you ofcourse press space-bar once after starting or loading a campaign!)

    I agree with khaos... use the "box of nine stomp."

    When all else fails, collect an "army" of 9 or 10 onesy-twosy unit remnants of very low upkeep and use them as agent squashers. It's a bit of a nuisance, but often it turns out to be a huge timesaver.

    this made me smile. each turn in M2TW takes me in the region of 15-45 mins, so the notion of a "literally over a whole minute" is more in the 'mildly annoying' ballpark for me.

    I think that the AI initiates diplomacy so often without making proposals just to be able to enter the Diplomacy screen and try to read informations.

    That might be false as most of a faction's statistics are available to the player and automatic for the AI to know, I suppose; the only thing the statistics do not show is what the faction is planning, an info that requires a high-rank diplomat/princess to learn, and it might be the unique purpose you see all the moving to settlements for.

    Of course, the Player's intentions are unknown, but the AI factions' aren't, so if the system tries to get info automatically it will do it towards the player, too.

    That doesn't seem right. It seems like just something they would know. They can't "read information" on the diplomacy screen because they don't have eyes, they wouldn't need to "see" the diplomacy screen to know the things that are on it.

    I'd say, the diplomats are trying to bribe, the princesses are trying to steal your generals.

    As I said, how can a princess steal a general if there is either none in the settlement or the one who is, is married.

    Something isn't right with the AI routine.

    iirc, a princess can do nearly everything a diplomat can do. She could be trying to bribe the settlement.

    As I said, princesses do not have a bribe function as opposed to diplomats.
    That's unless the AI can, while a player cannot.
