Well, I do highly prefer fighting at the west side against France and such, and I don't really have much intrest in fighting the Italians. But if its a high percentage I wont be able to join the Swabians then I guess I have no choice but to join the south, but thats if its impossible for me to join the west.

I know, Scherer has been doing sterling work. But he does now have Dietrich and Athalwolf nearby in Paris, Wolfgang in Rheims and Hans on the way from the Holy Land. I think the vulnerability, in terms of avatars, in the west is ending.

By contrast, when Gerhard Steffen dies, there will be only two Bavarians in Europe.

Swabia and Franconia have had the lion's share of avatars in the game - I would like to beef up Austria and Bavaria, if possible.

Partly, I am thinking ahead to the "cataclysmic event" we've discussed. We'll vote on this OOC in the next Diet, but if we do go for it, the Bavaria will become a key battleground again (our Italian cities are not so loyal).

Let's wait a couple of turns to see if an avatar turns up. If not, we'll hire a recruitable Swabian general for you. I am sure you can persuade the Chancellor, Overknight, to send you to the West to earn your spurs regardless.

Not yet. King Jan panicked because he thought there was the possibility that there might be a Muslim Duke of Franconia in the future. You have to understand, he's got the "grand crusader" trait, 9 piety, and is King of Outremer so he is pretty sensitive to this sort of thing, no matter how slim the possibility. Once Elberhard assured him that the Duke had to be German, Jan dropped the case with relief. This was totally an IC concocted event due to my character's traits.

Right now there are three daughters who will become Princess avatars if their dads are alive when they come of age. 2 for the Kaiser and 1 for the Prince. The eldest one from the Kaiser is technically heiress to the Franconian Ducal throne and will pass that title on to her husband whom a Kaiser will pick for her.

Franconia fights Denmark, Poland and Russia
Swabia fights France
Bavaria fights Sicily, till they are off the European Mainland (I suspect that after that Bavaria will use one of it's HA's to start aiding other Duchies, attacking Southern France for example)

Roadkill, given Stuperman said you can have a free choice of avatars, I can offer you Wilhelm Heidelberg now. He's our only spare avatar and an Austrian. You can read about his traits in the Library. He looks fine to me. He is based in Vienna right now and has an alchemist, making him good with gunpowder weapons. Perhaps you could persuade the Chancellor to create a gun-heavy army for him?

As an Austrian, you would mainly fight Hungarians but also perhaps Poles - Krakow is near to Vienna and Budapest, and there are large Polish armies there.

The Hungarians seem to be fielding a lot of dismounted knights. The Poles used to specialise in Polish nobles, who are like javelin armed knights and so pretty formiddable.

I would advise you to accept Wilhelm, as the East seems a little less crowded with avatars than the West and AussieGiant, the Duke of Austria, is an active role-player so you may find it a lively House. It certainly needs more members.

If you don't want Wilhelm, we will stick with plan A - see what happens in the next two turns and if nothing comes up, hire a recruitable general.

Stig, the Bavarians still got the Spanish to worry about. Unless the fleet is strong enough to sink every fleet they throw at the HRE.

So is it still in the plan to ask for peace or vassalage with the Sicilians once they are kick out of Italy?
