Default having an adoption offered then taken away.

I am playing Kingdoms now. I guess everyone is. Probably why my questions go unanswered for some time.

But an old devil showed up in the Britannia campaign. An adoption failure. The prospective general was killed before the poor guy got the news that he had been promoted!

I have searched and read a lot about "man of the hour' and other adoption topics while searching for a way to get rid of the annoying event of having an adoption offered then taken away.
Is there a way to decrease the odds of him dying. Or any way to mod the files ..events, ancills, buildings,...? to increase the likelihood of a successful adoption?
Folks often ask me if we Americans are really that stupid.
    Why yes. Yes we are.

The adoption is always successful unless the candidate captain ended his turn inside a settlement. In that case, it always fails.

I think its a design choice by CA, as it "kills" the captain character whenever he enters a settlement and creates a new one whenever a unit leaves it.
