Spaceward Ho! IV (for the PC): A simple, yet fun, beer-and-pretzels space strategy game. A pity I mistakenly let my ex-fiance keep my copy when we split up.

I still have that one! In fact, it's installed on my hard drive right now. (A pity my PC still isn't up and running, though. )

Lords of the Realm II actually runs just fine under XP, and with the expansion pack it's a pretty awesome game with some very cool castles, but a very abusable AI. LotR III was a horrible, horrible game unfortunately, completely unfinished and unpolished. It'd be nice if someone decent took a shot at IV.

There actually were sequels for that game? I only played the very first one and had a lot of fun with it.

    Hi Martok

Yeah, it's the real-life stuff again. I'm in my first year of the uni now and it's extremely busy and tiring. And, I don't have a computer of my own yet. If I had one, and some time I'd be playing at least the SW mod for MTW:VI and STW SP now and then..

    well.. one day..

    Defender of the Crown

I loved that game as a teenager (1980s) and have not played it since.

I still remember trying desperately to fell the walls of opposing castles. I always got so annoyed when I couldn't do it. It was difficult because you had to be very (VERY) exact with the mouse.

Spaceward Ho! IV is unique in being the only version that was playable on the PC. All other versions of SH! were exclusive to the Mac.

I would love to see another sequel for the PC. I believe it would be the series' 6th installation were that to happen.

You have my sympathies, mate. I still can't get my PC to work, so I can identify only too well how you feel.

I just thought of another game that i'm sure some of you will agree with me on - Crimson Skies!

Sure, the one on the xbox was ok, but it was too absurd with all those fantastical machines. Remove the ridiculous machines and it would be fine.

A proper sequel to CS would be perfect, especially today with the improved graphics available.

Well, I'm on the young side, so my older games are...not that old, but they're old for me. Anyways, the games I'd like to see, in no particular order:

Beyond Good and Evil deserves a sequel. Great story, great gameplay, and no one bought it because it was on the Gamecube. Hopefully someday it'll get some respect and a more popular console [even a remake for the Wii would go over quite well].

Warcraft. I know they've got WoW - I've played it. It's fun, but it's not the fast paced RTS that was well balanced and amazingly fun to play that Warcraft III was. The expansion was slightly dull [as all Blizzard expansions seems to be], but it was still a blast to go online and play a 15 minute match. It's the best blend of RTS and RPG I've seen, and it did it without sacrificing its strengths. I want to see a true sequel, Warcraft IV. For XP, not Vista.

And finally, and this isn't old at all, but...

KOTOR! I know I can still play Knights II on the PC or an Xbox, but I want to see Knights III, on the 360, on new PC's, with another great story and another great feeling. I can admit it: I felt cool while playing that game and swinging a light saber around. I want to do it again.

    Honorable Mention:

Age of Empires III. I like the game a lot, but I feel that the RTS genre has passed its core mechanics by, and it will never feel the same again. Even so, it will always hold a dear place in my heart and hours of my adolescent life. If they made a true "IV", with the exact same campaigns from the first + a couple more, improved graphics, AI, path finding, and maps, I'd probably buy it out of nostalgia. Even so, I don't know how fun it would be, so it doesn't get a true place in the list.

Edit: I felt that I should mention, with how new all of these games are, that I don't have any of them anymore. Unfortunate incident, all my games gone. :sniffle:

I really miss the old Talonsoft Battleground Series games, especially the the Napoleonic ones.

The other day I reinstalled Earth 2150 but it didn't work, I guess because it's an old game and won't work on anything newer then Windows 98. A real shame, that game was absolutely awesome.

If you're running XP, install the game, and then right click, properties, compatibility and then tick the run in compatibility mode box and select Win 98.

    • Port Royal the original. None of the sequels/side-quels (Tortuga 1-2, PR2...) matched the feel of it. Oh, and I want my fleet battles back! A new Patrician wouldn't be bad either.
    • Historical city building sims a là Pharaoh and Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom. There are Children of the Nile and Caesar IV but they're completely new within the genre.
    • Sea Dogs. No sequel of Akella (Pirates of the Caribbean, Age of Pirates) managed to catch the feel of my first love sea game. That said, Cutthroats. I want it badly.

    Super Mario 64, 007 Goldeneye, and Crusader:Stronghold.

Especially Mario, that was a revolutionary game.

If i recall correctly, Goldeneye has been remade as a mod for the source engine.

I used to play games a lot more years ago

Haven't got the discs for most anymore, but think you can still play a few

Some of my favourites were (ultimate) Doom, Doom II, Heretic (which on the old computer ran using zdoom which was really good). Blood, Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, Quake, Quake II (think the Quake games should be OK to run even though Quake 1 was DOS).

Red Baron 3D, (apparently can work on XP but is really difficult to do so)
Flying Corps (another WW1 air combat game, played the full version a few times at a friends house, and beforehand had the demo, although more limited than RB3D, it had a different feel, and in some areas was better, really enjoyed dogfighting)

Super Street Fighter II Champion Edition (never owned a console but used to love this game)

Carmageddon & Carmageddon II (I think at least Carmagedoon II could work on Xp, not sure if Carma 1 would), but both loved these games, very different to other games at the time.

Half Life 1, I know it can work on XP, want to get this again, with the expansions, I completed it and it was one of the best games I've played.

(the elder scrolls II) Daggerfall, loved this game, had full version, you're able to run on XP but you need to tweak dosbox I think, I currently have on this pc Morrowind which I also love.

Realms of the Haunting, had the demo on the 1st pc, (never played the full version) but it was awesome and scary, had fmvs (cut scenes with actors) to explain the story too

I'm not sure if Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit & NFS 4 High Stakes would work on XP, but I really enjoyed them

Interstate 76, great game, not sure if can run on Xp

Colin Mcrae Rally (the original), not sure if it can run on XP, also not sure of the difference of the newer games and other rally games, but really enjoyed it. And speaking of rally, I used to also really enjoy Network Q RAC Rally Championship (even though the game was more simple / arcady, i.e the roads weren't too wide, and you would bounce of the sides if you went far out).

Test Drive II: The Duel, really enjoyed this game, it was my favourite for some years in the early 90's (had the apple port version, even though it was released originally in '89), got it from my dad's friend on disk (with other games such as Simants), it also had the California Challenge scenery disk, but I always wanted to also have the European Challenge scenery disk, as well as the Supercars car disk & Musclecars car disk. In fact it was the first game I was wary of at the time that had expansions, as before I thought games were sold as they were and the only addition could be a sequel. I think you can get a port for it? I never played Test Drive 1, I played TD3, but didn't like it, got it later on an old pc laptop, but think there was a problem as the game just ran too fast.

Shufflepuck cafe (played on the old macs)

Luckily I can run Thief: The Dark Project, Thief II: The Metal Age (and the big unofficial fan mod Thief 2x: Shadows of the Metal Age) on the current pc (you just temporarily have to disable one of the processes, as it's to do with hyperthreading), also can run the newer Thief III: Deadly Shadows although that runs a bit slowly sometimes as it requires a good graphics card.

I'm sure there's quite a few other games, but can't remember them all.

European Air War---IMHO the best WW II flight sim ever made. For dynamic game play and massive epic air battles in skies filled with bombers and their fighter escorts, I would still rank it as superior to IL-2---even though the latter has much better graphics and probably more accurate physics.

Panzer Commander---one of only about 3 WW II tank sims ever made and my all time favorite

I kept my previous 1.7 gighz rig with Windows ME just to play such older games, but I have a problem with all three of these.

Since Red Baron D was optimized to run with the now defunct Voodoo brand of graphics cards which used glide technology, the only way to get decent graphics is with a glide emulator. Unfortunately, I cannot get any of these to work with Windows ME.

European Air War has also been passed by technology. I have a Radeon card in this rig and even though it is several years old at some point the ATI drivers did something that eliminated the horizon fog in this game, so now it looks like I am flying on a big square table top--you can actually see the corners.

The game also will not run at all with most NVidia cards and their drivers after the 5XXX series. I may try to get an old card on E-bay or something just to play it again because I miss it so.

As for Panzer Commander, I have played it on occasion but the blocky antiquated graphics simply hurt my eyes now.

    Ahh, the good old days!
I used to also own Panzer Commander, I know around the same time there were a few other tank games, I think one set in the Gulf War, and there was another WWII game (i44?)

also once a friend lent me European Air War, although I found the pace too fast for me, (as I'm used to playing WW1 sims)

Interstate 76, man do I miss that one! It doesn't work on XP, I've tried quite a bit of things, including glide wrappers, to get it to work in the past. Nothing succeeded :(

NFS5 was the best by far of all the NFS games. Too bad they've taken the route of making them glorified ricer arcade games.

Wii version of Sonic is actually very good.

@Krazilec, try setting the .exe to win98 compatibility, worked for me.

I played NFS5, very good, and unique, only focusing on Porches, but liked in career mode (?) over time how you got the cars from the beginning to the more modern ones, I also liked that city night level through the narrow streets (Monte carlo?)

shame i76 doesn't work, also had one of the best soundtracks, very funky
never played i82 though, although am much more interested in 70's muscle cars

this video has the 'top 10 video game weapons according to gametrailers.com'

    https://youtube.com/watch?v=GxSdKF5Fd38

They really should have put the Wraithverge from Hexen (another good game, which was quite special using the 'hub' system)
    http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Wraithverge

it's one of the best weapons I've ever used, required a lot of mana to use, but it was so destructive, when you fired it, 4 ghosts split out quickly to find enemies nearby, (they did it automatically like 'heat seeking misses') if they found the enemy, they would very viciously rip into the enemy killing/trying to kill them

I particularly liked the big open desert levels in i76, lot's of freedom there

and liked how you drove from one destination to another

One of my favourite 'cutscenes' was the intro, but as for atmosphere I really loved that one set in the evening (dusk) next to a fuel station that got attacked, looked dramatic

I liked everything about it, particularly the setting, which was kinda funny, and the level of customization.

oh yeah who could forget the customization, loved how your mechanic you could fix parts, and put salvaged additions to your car, including different combo of weapons, etc

and of course during driving / fighting you had to be careful as otherwise some parts could be rendered useless,

I can only echo some of my fellow "Mechwarriors" here. Basically M$ need to sell the franchise off to someone that can do more than just make pretty arcade games. From MW3 onwards the series has been a complete mess. Mechwarrior 2 was quite simply the pinnacle of the Mechwarrior games and none of the later titles have surpassed it.

What is needed is a new MW sim based on the old MW2 with greater flexibility and improved physics. There is no need for crap animated cutscenes and an RPG style interface with silly characters engaging in personal struggles. What is needed is better chassis customisations, a greater range of chassis, more involved controls and piloting, better single player campaigns and vastly improved MP play modes.

Mechcommander was a great game, had great potential and could have been developed into something much better, instead we had the substandard Mechcommander 2...
