Im glad to see that the Senate House has so many eager politicians in its walls, and I hope that you will all continue to serve Roma as you do now.
It seems to me that (so far) the general vote is to march to and conquer southern italia. im not saying this is the final verdict, but im letting all know this is so likely to be our plan.
Another point I would like to put forward: what should be done with construction, taxation etc? Should the Senators decide what happens with it, or would it simply be easier for me to decide? I will keep reports coming in once the campaign begins, but i thought it would be best to consult you, the Senators of our City, and see what you decide. I am, and will forever remain, your loyal general.

    Senatores! Senatores!

What is all this talk of war? Let us rather build beautiful forums, and baths...yes luxurious bathouses. I say let us sue for peace on every front, make trade agreements, fill our coffers, build an arena and have some games.

I am sure that we can coexist with the Epeirots, who knows if we gather enough mnai we might even buy Tarentum from them. Surely talents of gold would help them in their war against the Makedonians. A lots of gold will do them more good than some backwater town.

Rhegium on the other hand has affiliation with no one, no great power that holds a protective hand over them, maybe we should extend them ours?

I propose we send our legions to Rhegium, who should lead them I do not care, so long it isn't me. If the good people of Rhegium do not open the gates and welcome us with flowers and joyful smiles I suggest we sell them into slavery. I might need some new slaves.

Yes and let's not forget to tax the plebs to the bone, or else they will squander their mnai on meeningless things. And after all we'll need it.

We should starting building better markets, harbours, roads and let the trade florish.
    Roma must be destroyed

Senators why do we need to fear Pyrrhus, who is far away busy fighting the macedonians, I say conquer Italia than we shall talk about peace with them. And we need to exterminate the greeks to set an example how we deal with people who defy the will of rome. after the peninsula is ours we can talk abut peace and coexistence but before that the only thing we need to hear is how the archive victory. who is with me?

    Wise words, Senator Karo.

Senator Madmatg, there is no C in my name. More importantly, Pyrrhus will agree to peace and trade rights if we exterminate the people of Tarentum, of this I assure you. I shall do my victory jig in your face after I am proven right...

Now normally I would agree with you. The long-term economic consequences of such butchery would outweigh the short-term gain. But the Tarentines are not a normal people. They breed like snails, and I assure you that it will not take long for the streets to again be backed by 8 am every morning. Besides...we desperately need the mnaii to start a building program and train more men.

Senators! We need bullion for the sake of maintaining our army and constructing buildings of importance for Roma and her allies. Of this, few will disagree. Our opinions deviate over how we should do this.

If we do conquer Italia, I promise an instantaneous massive boost to our treasury. Then we can follow the noble pursuits of Senator Night, with our borders secured and peace achieved.

I have another proposition: Send our army to Capua. There we can supply them with superior arms & armor. All except the triarii should receive these. My reason for excluding them is simple - the cost of upgrading their armor is nearly 9 times more than doing so for the principes. Too damn expensive!

I object to the proposition of Senator Poulp that we rally our army south of Arpi. It would be of benefit to garrison the city with a large force and Consul Scipio for a time, however. I have no fear whatsoever of being attacked, we far outnumber the Tarentines and have superior infantry. It would be impossible for them to defeat us in the open field.

Regarding construction...I believe we should upgrade the Military Industrial Complex in Roma. We have need of extraodinarii cavalry, which cannot be trained without superior horse breeders.

And again, I propose training accensi as a garrison force. It costs less to maintain them than any other force we have.

    Do my fellow senators agree?

I would suggest using leves as a garrison instead of accensi. Although they do cost a bit more, the unit is much larger and is still very cheap, and they will defend the city better in the event of a surprise attack.

I agree that we should upgrade the MIC of Roma. I would also suggest the we lower Roma's tax rate to "Low". Yes, this will create a defecit but it can be overcome by taxing the people of the other four cities into the ground, and Roma will bebefit from the rapidly increasing population and happiness. We can then set the tax rate back to Normal or High once Roma reaches the next level of settlement, and we will be pleasantly surprised that we have many more plebs to tax.

Why should we slaughter the greeks? It makes more sence to enslave them.

Scipio and Cotta would make a formidable legion (the boy Cotta is exceptionally talented).

The Celts to our north will not trouble us, and if we quickly crush Taras, and unite southern italy, we will be at lessiure to recrit a further two legions.

Because we need to set an example for our enemy that war with us is not their best intrest.

And with two legions we have enough we will need the extra money to build our infrastructure. We need to earn enough internal as we do with foreigeners.

And I agree the celts are not a thread for now, we need to attack Southren-Italy and anax it and than we can talk about future wars with someone else.

I must humbly apologize to you senator TW as i have been butchering your name in my ignorance. You should not leave our lovely debate as this first turn will most definitely take the most time and effort to get done as we start anew, wait until the first few season are done before running away please!

Also i agree with the senators who have proposed the enslavement of the greeks in the south, as well as the fleets disbandment, and the training of levees to be sent south to garrison our cities.

I believe our newer cities should shoulder the larger % burden of our taxes, as our republic grows we can shift this out to whatever outlying provinces are newest.
