Hi Karo,
Simply enter your UserCP and select to join the Backroom usergroup. Provide your reason, submit it, and the moderators will overview your request.
Typically, unless the staff have a good reason, you should posses full Backroom access within a couple of weeks. If this is not the case, then feel free to PM either KukriKhan, Ser Clegane, Papewaio, Banquo's Ghost or TosaInu, and inform them of the possible oversight.

Is this "admission" procedure new. I didn't do anything and it was just there when I logged in. Of course, I've done everything possible to get banned since then.

It's several months old. It's an opt in forum, that doesn't mean that you've done anything wrong.
