Thread: Crusades Stone Forts Revealed

    Default Crusades Stone Forts Revealed

So, ever since I found out that the permanent stone forts in the Crusades campaign were just the old wooden deathtraps, even though they're depicted on the strategic map as stone, it's bugged me.

I continue to think this must be a bug.

In an effort to prove myself wrong, I looked in the Crusades battle editor, since I had previously noticed that, in the Britannia editor, the stone forts are on the list.

    Guess what I found?

    Lovely, never-before-seen stone forts!

These are not the same forts as the Britannia ones, and there are no stone forts on the editor list within the Teutonic campaign.

This leads me to believe that the Crusades forts should, indeed, be stone, and it's a rather glaring bug that they're not.

    So, now I need help.

Does anyone out there have any idea what file defines what models are used as buildings, so that the wooden forts can be replaced with these? This sort of thing isn't hardcoded, so it's got to be out there somewhere.

Point me in the right direction, and I'll do my best to fix this!

Wow great find! Sorry I have no idea where to put them (maybe the descr_buildings file?) but well done anyway!

The files you want would be in the settlements folder. worldtexture files etc.

As to how to use them, refer to my sig with the tutorial on changing settlement looks: forts are also located there to change I would believe (I can't verify whether they really are there as I don't have kindgdoms, but they should logically be)

    Thank you, FactionHeir.

I'll take a look through that information and see what I can do.

If anyone else has anything to add, feel free! I expect this to be a messy job. ^_^

    Uruk-hai, I'll also accept payment in high-charm (>=7) princesses. Your choice. ^_^

I was really hoping there was a TXT or database file somewhere that told the game which models to use.

I could probably get the swapping models method to work, but the game somehow randomizes the fort layouts, and I'd like that to happen.

    Nice find

If I was you, I'd ask around the modding forums for help on this; with this sort of find behind you, I suspect that you'd get a fair bit

    Thanks, sapi, I'll do that.

I would've done it already, but I was worried about posting the same thing in more than one forum, and I posted here, first.

Sorry I haven't gotten further on this. I had a deadline this week, and so haven't had the leisure.

I trust that means, once you figured out how to implement them, it would be possible to build permanent stone forts?
Hm, would that also work for the Grand campaign, via the Retro mod? That would be priceless (I´ll see what we can do about that seven-charms princess)
