    Post Pick Your Candidate

Finally, I don't have to put all of that exhausting thought and consideration into picking a candidate for President. Thanks to this handy online quiz, which asks you about nothing but wedge issues, your candidate will be picked for you. Salvation!

Apparently I can choose from Bill Richardson, Ron Paul or Barack Obama. Now I know.

Dennis Kucinich - whoever he is.

I only disagree with him on immigration, apparently, and the options on that topic all seemed too anti-immigration for my tastes, so I am not sure that counts as I did not want to pick any.

Wierdly Obama and Hilary only disagreed with me on Iraq and the death penalty, which seems to imply a greater degree of agreement between them than I supposed.

What happened to Fred Thompson? He was not on the list.

Well, I'm not a Yank, but I did the test anyway. Fred Thompson's my pick, but according to this I should be gunning for Mitt Romney (followed by Jim Gilmore -- who? -- and -- ugh -- Giuliani). Thompson's all the way down, ranked seventh! Maybe I'm really mistaken here...

By the way, I didn't quite get the question about marriage. The amendment they talked about -- would it benefit or repress homosexuals? Repress, right?

I like the Libertarian Party, but Paul's an isolationist nutcase, not to mention a tired old man who should call it quits already. Just my two cents here, not trying to start fights (may be the wrong forum for that, yeah)

    If that's 33 of 100 I guess it's good I'm not a US citizen(yet).

Note that the quiz uses nothing but wedge issues. So you're not exactly getting a detailed or nuanced idea of the candidates. Still, it's amusing.

Interesting, Joe Biden got 50 points while Clinton and Obama tied at 40. Of course Hillary is manipulative, and power hungry, so regardless of what I agree with her on I would never support her. Giuliani was right behind with 39 points. Surprisingly, while I usually identify myself as a moderate libertarian, Ron Paul only got 7 points.

The quiz-makers seem to be fascinated with that border fence thing. Pathetic really, since of all the anti-immigration measures this is probably the most useless.

There's no "who ******* cares about the wall? But punish employers of illegal immigrants, yes" or "make the wall a monument to the Arts with mosaics and marble carvings and stuff and we can talk" so I don't think I can really answer this quiz question.

Highest Republicans were Romney and Giuliani. I don't know Romney, but before the quiz Giuliani was my favourite Republican. Good quiz then, apparently.

    http://www.vajoe.com/candidate_calculator.html

Not as well set out and done quite differently to this one, but the idea is still there. I got Kuchinich in that one.

In the one you posted I got 66 for Dodd, only disagreeing on Immigration and I got 64 with Kucinich, only disagreeing (And then slightly) on Iraq. I had Hillary, Obama and Edwards (Who I prefer out of the three top runners) tied next on 59 - all of whom I disagree with on the Death Penalty. Hunter was last on 7 - only agreed with him on Energy.
I only disagree with him on immigration, apparently, and the options on that topic all seemed too anti-immigration for my tastes, so I am not sure that counts as I did not want to pick any.
I was in the same conundrum.

The immigration question was so hostile to immigrants, it was funny. Why did they not just ask you to choose:

Oh please, Econ. We had much stricter immigration laws back when that was put up. And immigration should not be a general opening of our doors to a bunch of people fleeing a crappy country to our south and costing us billions of dollars (illegals cost LA county about $1billion a year. That's one county).

    Anyways, I got:
    John McCain
    Score: 51

    Tom Tancredo
    Score: 50

    Duncan Hunter
    Score: 43

    Fred Thompson
    Score: 43

Which is odd, since I would much, much rather have Duncan Hunter or Fred Thompson over Tancredo or McCain. Thompson is my choice right now, edging Duncan mainly because of name recognition.

FYI, I got 8's for Edwards, Obama, and Clinton, and 3's for Dodd, Kucinich, and Gravel.
