    Default Crysis resleased

I picked it up in my local Best Buy (Baltimore) last night...

Have to say it is pretty sweet...

I have Core2Extreme CPU, 2GB RAM, 8800GTX, loads of disk space, Vista 32bit. I find for a stable framerate when the game gets busy I need High settings... I can run Very High, but the frame rate bottoms out frequently...

It really does look fantastic, even on high...The detail and quantity of the vegatation is amazing... Not sure amout all these claims of photorealism though, that is getting a bit carried away with the hype...

It is a shooter in the style of FarCry (unsurprisingly) and so far does everything FarCry did, only better and prettier...

If you are expecting something different to the FarCry style, then you will be disappointed...

If you liked FarCry (the begining bit) then you should like this...

Did I say it was pretty?

Huh? What does 'resleased' mean? And who is Top? Sounds like a person who is in a high position.

Eh, anyway... Crysis... well, I might have to check it, but I suspected -- if your claims are tru, and of course based on the demo -- the game would be similar to Far Cry with elevated visuals, which would be a waste of my time.

Oops, corrected as best i can...

Again if FarCry didn't do it for you, I can't see you being a big fan of this...

The demo confused me. I have 3 GB ram, 2.6 X2 processor and 512 MB Geforce 8500 GT; yet I had to run it on low++, else I'd get <15 FPS.

I'm able to run F.E.A.R. with all settings maximized on this rig, I don't get it.

I hear that it's pretty underwhelming, graphics wise. Looks like any top-notch game that's come out recently.

Playing it I have to say it is interesting... One thing to note graphically, they aren't using any of those bluring around the edges of the screen tricks you see in everything these days.

It is hard to explain, it still looks like a game, as far a photo realistic goes, I would say at times it is 90% of the way there. The trees and undergrowth is fantastic, buildings are good too... Textures don't stand up well to getting too close... Vehicles don't look all the good (not that bad either, but I am being hyper critical here)...

I keep thinking, this would make an insanely cool engine for a Vietnam FPS...

Bob, when I play it on high it does have motion blur and the veichles do have alrite textures, do you play on medium? Anyway I'd say it is on par with xbox360 graphics now (such as CoD4)

I played the demo on high and it did look impressive, especially the character models IF you're paying attention. The game has great graphics but lacks a true sense of style, making it look rather bland in the end (the sunrise is nice though).

This is NOT to game to show off your uberPC to your friends, (Does anyone actually do that BTW ?) I think Bioshock has a far more visually impressive start.

I don't know about that... I got Crysis over the weekend and it looks pretty good. True, the really impressive visuals didn't appear for me until after about 10 hours of gameplay, but it is certainly top-of-the-line at the moment. The textures on some of the 'main character' faces are incredibly detailed. Overall, it is a very, very good looking game.

I am also finding it very fun. I enjoyed the free-form nature of Farcry a great deal and I am happy to be running around a jungle with guns once again. If Farcry wasn't your thing, though, avoid Crysis.

Regarding the technical side, the game runs flawlessly on my PC. I have a Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz, 2gb ram and a 8800 GTS 512mb and I run the game at 1680x1050 (widescreen) with all the graphics set at High. Very High is grayed out and I can't even select it, so given my choices, I am at max settings. The only exception is AA, which the game advised me not to turn on, so I didn't. I haven't noticed any jaggies though, so I don't see any loss from that. The game boots up and loads very, very fast. It's laughable to see how quickly Crysis runs compared with the unbelievably long load times for The Witcher, which is far less visually impressive and has smaller areas.

I will give one word of warning: I had to replace my DVD drive in order to play the game. My DVD drive was very old (wasn't even a burner, probably 6-7 years old) and it simply didn't recognize the disk at all. It worked perfectly fine in my wife's computer, so I just ran out and bought a new DVD burner at the local store. It runs perfectly fine in the new burner with no problems at all. I'm not bothered by this at all, since I needed a new DVD drive and a dual-layer burner as well, but this is an issue that people should be aware of before they buy the game.

Sadly Crysis also has SecuROM 7. The latest version. So probably not going to get it.

I think when you compare Crysis to the other pretty FPS's out there one import thing to take into account is the shear scale of the levels... yes every texture is not a high definition beauty with all the graphical trimmings... But there is just so much rich detail and so many trees and bushes of verious sizes... It is the scale of the levels and the density of the content (and that content's excellent presentation) that makes it so convincing.

Combine that with the open(ish) gameplay and it is pretty sweet...

    For a shooter...

According to various other forums it does not. But it still bears the risk of SecuROM:

I hear the graphics are breathtaking - as long as your character doesn't breathe, walk or engage in any sort of action. Even guys with monster-cpu's and GeForce8800GTX vid cards have issues with this game's frame rate. One review says it'll only run properly on your local drug dealer's Uebercomputer..

The graphics are indeed extremely good. I can't imagine an 8800 GTX having problems though. It runs just fine on high settings on my 8800GTS.

Perhaps their computers are just faulty (dirty disk and not optimized and such).

Well, I liked FC, Bob, and it was even my first online multiplayer game, but I don't like Crysis. And because I dislike Crysis I will probably start disliking FC

Finished on the Delta difficulty... If you are any good at FPS on the PC I would not bother with any other difficulty...

More and more it feels just like FarCry but done right...

The whole alien thing at the end could have been done better I think but is certainly lightyears ahead of the TryGens and the ending of FarCry. It is not particularly scary though the final level on the your Aircraft Carrier can be a little scary in places...

Overall it felt quite short and the ending couldn't have sequel stamped alll over it any more obviously...

The campaign is loads of fun and the content fantastic stuff...

For the MP I am still undecided... It is not easy to find well populated servers and the whole experience feels a little remote...

Maybe I have been playing too much CoD4 MP, but going from that viceral experience and the havoc of the Crysis SP game the MP just does feel a little flat...

It's got the maps and the vehicles and the guns and the weapon purchase system that is all great but the fact that everyone is in a nano suit means it is no long all that much of a big deal, not special at all really. And the game modes don't really concentrate the action... You would think it plays BF2 and it does mostly but without the intensity of BF2...

This is all IMO of course...

The more I play it the more I feel that as soon as you get away from the normal warfare you are past the most interesting and open areas. Given that it feel that the engine could be put to much better use...

I agree. I very much like the FarCry/Crysis campaigns when they are against human opponents. Both lose a lot of their lustre when they move on to the 'tougher' opponents. I finished the game once, then went back for a replay and played it right up until it switched over to non-human enemies. At that point, I was done and put it away. It's a shame, because the first portion of the non-human part was visually spectacular. Easily one of the best looking areas I have ever seen in any computer game.

I very much hope the engine is licensed out for other games. I really feel it is near perfect in all areas. I vastly prefer it to the Doom 3/Quake 4 engine, though perhaps that is an unfair comparison. Still, there is so much potential in it that it would be a massive shame if it was not used for other games.

Well, I bought it and in spite of my expectations my system and my GeForce 8600 GT are perfectly up to it. The graphics and gameplay are surprisingly good, it is indeed FarCry done right in many ways. I haven't played MP yet, maybe it is just as disappointing as FarCry MP which is flat and repetitive. But the Crysis campaigns are good.

The reactive landscape is fantastic, although it can be a real biatch: one of my machine gun salvoes cut a tree which then fell on my vehicle and caused it to blow up in my own face. Once you have mastered the controls, the nano suit thingy (love the hyperspeed setting) and the weapons (one shot Scarp rulez) you will have a real field day with this game.

I beg of you, don't start this ridiculous topic again. SecuRom prevents piracy thats it, not that MumboJumbo everyone is complaining about.
