    Default Coats of Arms

    Hello All,

basically I have quite the obsession with heraldry (although not all that much knowledge of it) and enjoy crafting and designing coats of arms (especially round abouts the times of uni exams).

Hopefully, however, this is good news for KotR as I would like to extend an offer to any and all of you to craft your avatars their very own coats of arms, to be used however you may desire.

examples are zim and my signatures:

I have come up with/easily found base coats for each of the four houses and the empire, but other than that I am open for suggestions and have quite a lot of mainly german and french coats of arms sittinng about both on my computer and on wikipedia. furthermore, adding in elements from other images isnt too difficult. so basically anything you can give me an image of, i can incorporate.

Furthermore, I have a nice set of corwns for both Counts and Dukes (Princes also, actually) but am still looking for an Imperial one. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Im...z_Joseph_I.png is what im looking for, but that doesnt fit with the style of the coats of arms, if i just copy and paste it

    I only have two requests:
    1. Have patience, as this can take some time, and I am a bit of a perfectionist at times. That being said, sometimes the sizes are slightly off, and some crowns come out bigger than others. Don't read too much into that.
    2. That being said, obviously politics can come into coats of arms (the Swabian Principality being an example) and I am happy to include all your desires/claims. Just don't shoot the messenger, is all I ask

Very Nice. I've always had a fascination myself with heraldry. Back in my younger days I played Chaosium's King Arthur Pendragon RPG, and one of the cools apsects of character creation was making a coat of arms for your character.

Now that Matt is King of Outremer, I'm wondering what his coat of arms should be. An obvious candidate would be the arms of the Kingdom of Jerusalem:

But considering his home duchy and that he is an imperial appointee, I'm wondering if the Crusader Cross should be quartered with the Bavarian blue and white lozenges and the Imperial Eagle. Of course that might be a bit too loud.

Or considering this is an alternative Outremer, we could have a black Crusader Cross on a yellow field, which would be more in line with Imperial colors.

    (YAY: somebody acutally replied)

way ahead of you my friend :D

    (deleted)

was my basic idea, some of which is quite similar to yours. glad to see that.

now for matts personal arms it would be nice to add something bavarian in...perhaps have the subshield half imperial half bavarian?

    will play aroud with that

edit: a) would you like a crown and
    b) if yes, what would be applicable? is the crown of thorns the crown of outremer?

    edit2: like this, say:

The Crown of Thorns is a relic in the posession of the Kings of Outremer since Otto von Kassel, but I don't think it is worn as a crown. That might be a tad sacrilegious.

But since Matt is a King (of a whole two counties mind you) I guess he should have a crown.

I'm not sure how blue and white mixes with yellow and gold however.

Hmm, Ive used the bavarian and imperial arms together multiple times and never really thought about it, but it is a bit of a sharp contrast. with that in mind, i changed the outremer arms to be more like that of jerusalem, and made the bavarian blue more like it really is (and matched the outremer blue to that), which makes the overall effect less jarring. let me know what you think.

ah, yes and added a crown :D
