    Talking Apples! I like them.

    .
So what's about it worth making a thread?

I'm 32 years old. All in my life I had probably eaten no more than a hundred apples. I never wanted it. I even refused when offered at times, in contrast with my behaviour.

For about a month or so I can't do without apples, at least two a day. Yesterday it was five. I'm that kind of a person who can devour kilos of peaches or oranges, or half a watermelon at once. I love fruits! But apples were a hard exception, until recently.

Not that I'm complaining but it's very interesting.

Yup, apples are tasty. Are you a golden delicious kinda guy, a Granny Smith lover, or a red delicious pervert?

    I'm a Granny Smith pervert.

I also eat lots of bananas and buckets! of frozen blueberries. Not much else as far as fruit goes.

I usually bring an apple a day to school, and sometimes have one afterwards too. I haven't had too many as I've been home for a while, and my parents only by Granny Smith's, which though delicious get boring after a couple of months. I need variety!!! Hopefully they'll buy something else one of these days...

I have two recommendations for you: Pippin apples and Honey Crisp apples.

I went through an apple revelation similar to yours a few years ago when a dietician recommended them as a better way to get increased fiber than pills. I eat one or two a day still, but back then we had a good farmer's market that carried the two above regularly, in addition to the usual suspects.

The Pippin is a classic green apple, not as firm or tart as a Granny Smith, and with a softer skin. They can be a little hard to find, at least here in Georgia, but they're worth seeking out.

Honey Crisps are a relatively new variety and are becoming more popular all the time. They have a perfectly balanced sweetness, and unlike a Granny Smith they won't interfere with other flavors.

Granny Smith's are the best travelling apples, IMHO, because they're so hard with such a good skin that they can take getting dinged around without being damaged or pierced. A GS doesn't go with a lot of foods and drinks (Milk, coffee, Coke, etc.) and so I usually eat them only as a between meals snack.

All three of these apples are on the firm side, and are durable for keeping around the house. I'm personally not a big fan of the soft apples, but I buy a McIntosh every so often just for the experience.

Honey crisps ROCK! They're the only apple my little lemurs eat. No trouble getting them to eat their fruit in a house stocked with honey crisps, bananas, tangerines and grapes.

My mom said Golden Delicious are good, so I bought some of them, not regularly but they taste fine, those honey things sound good if I can find them, I'll give them a try.

I have fallen in love with Nashi, or pear apples as they are called also. The fruit are less sweeter then pears and less solid then apples and have a fine refreshing taste. I recommend these delicious things to anyone who can get those in their hands.

Interesting you should say apples. According to QI Turkey consumes more apples than any other country in the world.

Me, I like apples, though I don't know what kind they are. We actually have an apple tree and my grandmother used to make apple pies from it's apples.

There is one type of apple that I have never seen in a supermarket, never bought commercialy, but they are the best apples ever. Lord Lambourne (sp?)variety, small but the flavour is amazing.

Granny smith's. Lovely taste, size, and firm. Oddly enough, I like mixing them with Tropicana simply pure orange juice. Also, they are durable enough and keep well enough so that when I get a craving for a hoarde of oranges, I can indulge safely.

Small, red apples amazingly delicious. There was a tree, about twenty years ago, at mom's village and I would eat dozens of what was called "honey apples" there. Now, that was the sole exception to my apple dislike. Can you be talking about the same stuff Jubal? Interesting...

Everyone who likes Red Delicious best hasn't tasted a real apple.

Of course, Washington is the apple state in the US, so I guess I get a broader selection.

well if region has anything to do with i live in new jersey and love my tomatoes. Oh we grow the most delicious ones in our garden out back, all kinds, and they are delicious. Reds and yellows, big and small, round and abnormal. just perfect for salads, sauces, soups, and sliced for bruschetta, basil, and mozzarella. Ah, nothing like a small sweet cherry tomato in the summer heat or a fresh slice on a high piled sandwich.

    and tomato is a fruit.
