Thread: Moving an army together

    Default Moving an army together

I recall there was a way to move an army, in whatever formations you put together and organized, with a certain set of keys (I think it was Ctrl+Shift while clicking to move) in MTW. Can I do this in MTW2?

I have tried a few things but it doesn't seem to keep them in the same way I left them, it either changes the depth or the location (or both).

There may be a shortcut, but I am not aware of it.

If you select all the guys you want to move, Ctrl+A for the whole army, and then put them in one big group, they will move together and end up in the same formation you had them in at the start. Unfortunately this destroys all your original groups so you have to redo all your groups. It is a pain so I usually just move every group individually to the new spot.

    ALT+right click

to turn your army and move: CTRL+A to select all, then CTRL+ALT (keep down both) and then rotate your army with your mouse; release mouse when you have the right facing. Then ALT+right click to move your army in formaton to keep same facing.

You group armies the MTW way, but I'm not sure you can call on them using CTRL+# anymore.
If you check the controls section of your game options though, it may have some bindable keys for that, however unlikely.

As for moving in formation, just hold down shift when selecting the movement target. This sets waypoints and will result in the army/uit/group moving in its current formation to that point. However, note that if one unit of the formation ends up on invalid terrain as a result, it will be placed elsewhere, usually somewhere at a far flank or the second center row.

Don't units rotate using the < and > keys?

group after the units are in formation.

if you group before that when you move they will revert to the formation they were in when you grouped them.

alt+click will move them and keep formation plus facing.
