Jack Thompson Faces Disbarment

He appears to have lost most of his arguments - why does he have to be punished further?

He's being disbarred for numerous ethical violations. It has nothing to do with his stance on video games. It has everything to do with his failure to abide by the rules all attorneys have to abide by. It's very well deserved and it's been a long time in coming. If you practice law in a filthy, underhanded way, don't go complaining when you get disbarred.

It's only a matter of time before Jack (@$$) Thompson realizes that his pathetic little crusade (maybe jihad is a better word, in light of recent events) is destined to fail. Just like Tipper Gore, the best he can ever hope for is a warning label, which is already in place. It's not the fault of <insert random game company name> that parents don't pay attention to it.

Parenting isn't the game industry's job.

I mass-murder thousands of people across Medieval and Roman-era battlefields every day. Sometimes when fighting the Mongols I have killed over 100,000 people in a single day. Not to mention mass extermination of civilians, including a population of nearly 60,000 in Constantinople. Throughout my TW career I suppose I have massacred millions of people.

But I literally wouldn't harm a fly in real life. Games such as GTA stop the nutcases from going out and playing their games in RL even sooner than they otherwise would.

Agreed. Thompson's method of "practicing" law has long been questionable at best. It was only a matter of time before this happened.


That said, however.... I have to admit that part of me is sad he's being disbarred, if only because his actions have done so much to help discredit the rest of the anti-game loonies out there. (Also, his antics were so darn entertaining; they made for some pretty hilarious reading material. ) So long as he was the primary face & voice of the various anti-gaming groups, he made them all look look bad, just by association.

When talking about Jack, the old phrase "Better the devil you know, than the devil you don't" definitely comes to mind.
