Halftime. I love my Russians. What a pleasant surprise. And they play Dutch football, too: left, right, and through the middle - never a dull moment. Only thing Hiddink has to teach them is to change gears from a fast pace to a slow one (control) and back to fast when you see an opening. But maybe that just doesn't suit this Russian team. Anyway, great game to look at.

There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

Two great team goals. Nothing surprising about this, for me. There's a definite increase in speed and
accuracy with Arshavin driving the team.

Zenit provides the quality. All of them are home-based, though, bar Saenko on the bench.

I'm almost pleased that sweden went. Perhaps now my country's team will sack Lagerbäck and get someone who values and emphesizes real football. As was brilliantly illustrated by the russian team the key is to have a good offence. Defence is a requirement yes, but that wont put the ball in the other goal, and to base the entire game startegy on it is just plain shameful. Out with the old and in with the new, and with luck I will never have to once again hear how the national football team got ready for a match by drinking tea and eating cookies.

As for what went wrong with this match, I shouldn't even have to state the obvious. Considering the hype in sweden regarding this team this is truly a good wake up call. That ridiculous commercial with lagerbäck in Gladiator only shows that they have no focus on the challenge up ahead. All the best to Russia, a good team which understands the key to victory even though they'll most likely get beat by the invinsible Holland.

Yeah I was wondering about that all tournament. I followed Zeniths brilliant performances earlier, and was wondering what became of all those players. Those Russian names don't stick in my mind, so I was never sure whether Hiddink was playing them or not. Until I saw Russia play tonight. What a delight!

Hiddink - Holland...hmmm. Should be good. Spain will collapse against Italy. Not a chance. Part of the reason why Spain always bottles tournaments is their mental inability to beat their fierce rivals France or Italy. They haven't won from Italy since before WWII. And have never won from France at all. Something in their minds about these games. An inferiority complex maybe?

Portugal I think will reach the final. Turkey - Croatia can go either way, could be a real winner, this game.

No it's not, it says updated after France-Italy here and some of the scores are also wrong.

    Maybe you should check it?

    Hold your horses.

Our friend updated yesterday evening at 21.00 (that's 9 pm) CET. That was during the last two games.

Quintus J. Cicero is doing us all a favour by organising this and I am sure he will update asap.

Heh, maybe I sounded a bit demanding, wasn't the intention and I might have missed the exact posting time, thought the last games were already over on the last page, my bad, sorry.

The russians were great, enjoyable game, i don't now if the swedish didn't turn up or the russians made them look bad, should be a good game against holland

    Portugal 3-1 Germany

I just think Portugal have got the better technical players and that will shine through on the day, will be a close match though....

Yeah, you're probably all worked up about tomorrow's game.

Based on the fact that everyone above me has gone for a Portugal win, and I'm not winning yet....

I'm going to do something that I'm probably going to regret.

    Germany 1 - 1 Potrugal

Germany to go through on penalties (3-2, Ronaldo to miss the deciding penalty).

    Quarter Final Match #1

    Portugal 3-2 Germany

I hate to say it but even though I want the Germans to get through...they aren't the best looking team yet...I hope they can pull it together and win but so far Portugal is one of the sides in the Quarters looking quite put together.

Portugal is much more impressive (that is if Scolari decides to put on the right team ).

I predicted right, I knew I wouldn't get points from Russia - Sweden if Arshavin played.

Portugal have looked better than the Germans in the group stage but Germany always go up a gear in the knockout rounds.
