I want to say Pennsylvania or New York, somewhere in the Northeastern Quarter of the US.

Gawain was a former marine from Brooklyn, in his late 50's/ early 60's.

Good guy, lots of respect for him. Terrible thing about his brother I hope he returns someday.

He lived right around the way from me I remember.

Pindar is sorely missed. That guy ruled. Red Harvest and Antiochus had some zingers too, if I remember correctly.

If Red Harvest happened to be an American Liberal who was always quite well-researched then I can tell you he is alive and well.

    Aye.

Thanks for sending me PM's, guys (you know who you are), and clearing up this Pindar business for me.

I guess it was inevitable after all. Pindar had a unique style and he played for keeps, two characterictics that were bound to clash with the views and styles of moderators and admins who have the day to day running of the .Org in mind. Senior Members are given quite a bit of latitude on this forum. In recognition of that fact, and out of respect for our excellent volunteer mods and admins, the latter deserve the same latitude.

So I shall stick my disappointment where it belongs. Honour and respect keep this site alive. Every PM I got confirmed that.

    He was (is?).

I often disgreed with him, but he was not one to bring a knife to a gunfight.

I recall his posts during the idiotic back-and-forth hurricane evacs from the Texas coast. If I recall, he subsequently moved and lacked time to play here anymore.

But Pindar? Good Lord. With him debate was always a game of endurance rather than skill. I think he knew my weakness: when looking at written material on the internet, my eyes begin to glaze over if my right-hand slider bar is less than 4cm long. He used true lawyer tactics when debating: bury the other guy with filings and briefs...

As for Gawain, I'm truly sorry for what he had suffered. Hope he hits back some time.

However I don't miss a tidbit of Pindar the I'm-So-Knowledgable-That-I-Can-Call-You-Retards. There is a huge difference between being knowledgable and wise and Pindar had none of the latter. I'm fine with him being away. I guess he's filling a text file with "All GAH!ers are retards" line right now -must be enjoyable for him.

I guess we all have our preferences, but let's refrain from kicking members who are gone. The only one you are hurting with your comments on Pindar is someone like me, Len. Was it worth it?

Tell me you didn't like it. I think he humbled a number of our liberal overlords. It is important to be jousted with by elders and intellectual superiors. Hell, it's why I come to these boards.

He hasn't died. If anything a low blow will give him reason to come back and defend himself. "yoyoyoyoyo did you hear what he said bout yo MAMA!???!!"

Say what you'd like about Pindar, on these boards he was a hero to the right and those who like to argue logically whatever the outcome. I would say the same about you, Adrian, should you leave us (switching the appropriate word for "left".)

Tastelessness is not banned here - DevDave and myself would have been gone long ago ;-)
(I'd mention Horetore and others but they might not see it as a joke, so I wont mention them)

    teehee

haha Adrian, we are disagreeing about what people should say about Pindar and I'm defending the guy who attacked him.????

I don't understand why some personality is not open to criticism. The words above were the exact ones I had told Pindar in the face. I feel no shame over it, sorry. This is freedom of speech to me.

    I guess we are!

Did you catch what Banquo said in the other thread? This is what makes the .Org such a bleedin good website.

And Len, there is more to this site than freedom of speech.

Switching virtues as you like, don't you?

I'm not missing someone who had his nose high up enough to call a bunch of members "retards". I don't respect one who fails to show it.

And also why should I favor him since he's your "buddy"? It is a Middle Eastern tradition where you defend your acquaintances at all terms whether they are wrong or right. Muliculturalism in effect, eh ?

You're right, you can say what you'd like and I'd disagree with you. Do it if you feel it is necessary. I hold Pindar in high esteem on these boards, but if you feel as though he had suffered from an intellectual vainity, you are free to voice the opinion.

Others can make up their own minds regarding Pindar and I'm sure that their opinions would come out more favorably.

I don't mind personal attacks when they relate to the forum.
If he had passed, the flippancy would be met with anger, but he has simply left, so it isn't.

It's strange, but it does feel wrong to me to speak ill of people who have left the org. This makes no sense, I know. It's not as though anyone has died. And yet, and yet ... for some reason it feels really wrong.

I can't defend the feeling, but there it is.

Ah sorry this should really have been a "they were all incredible entities that cosmic energy blessed upon us" ball.

He calls us retards, that's superb intellectual P1nd4R-stylez. However when I repeat what I had told him when he was here once more, as a simple way to underline my thoughts about him, I'm going ad hominem.

Sure, what a nice paladin party.

I am feeling no respect for one who had made "collective" personal attacks.

You made that perfectly clear, don't worry. You also made it perfctly clear that you couldn't care less about the feelings of other members.

That's dishonourable. No further insult or innuendo can wipe out that taint.

Since neither of the two members are here to rebuttal comments left about them maybe its time to let old dogs die. They arent around and dont look like they are coming back. I enjoyed both Gawain and Pindar, and I disliked there style at times as well.

That being said I would welcome both back and enjoy their posting, but there gone and choose to be so both for reasons most of us know, personal choice.

Sometimes the kitchen at the org gets pretty hot, there is unfairness, bias, dislike and genuine lack of honor. Yet its a choice to be here, we choose to carry on they choose not too. Lets close the chapter on it and hope they come back and help those who choose to stay write the next chapter.

There are few things more annoying than some idiot who has never done anything trying to say definitively how something should be done.

I value being more of a "man" rather than being a walking encyclopedic philosopher. I can't like one since you like him. Also "caring less about the feelings of other members" seems the exact way expected from someone as clever as you: "Look! he's so selfish and arrogant !". (AdrianII for Dummies)

No wonder why you two like each other. "Intellectual vainity" at work. I've just been labeled by a superior.

I failed at searching the Backroom for that topic. It's been disallowed.

But I remember a number of members reacting unpleasantly while Pindar the Übermensch never took his word back. Honorable indeed, so much to defend after years.

It should be easy to find , try under "I used to be concieted but now I am just perfect" , there were several along those lines , or perhaps "there isn't a bushel big enough to hide my light" .
