I recently bought the gold edition as my previous disc, plain old RTW, had a little mishap
Anyway I wanted to know if EB is compatible with the gold edition, i.e., RTW and Barbarian Invasion.
Thanks![]()

Yes, it is. Just install EB on top of the unpatched Gold Edition and everything will be fine (hopefully). You don't need to patch it, because Gold edition is already RTW 1.5 and BI 1.6.
Hopefully? I'm positively swelling with confidence.
Thanks for the quick reply![]()
It happens that any saved games you have from RTW will not load on Gold Edition resulting in a CTD. People I know have had to begin a new campaign.
Cheers.
Well, no worries there. I had wanted to download EB with my original RTW but didn't get the chance. As long as EB now works on gold I'll happily start a new campaign. Btw, if I have Vista should I encounter any problems? I just got gold today and I had previously installed RTW on XP.
P.S. What does CTD mean?![]()
CTD means Crash to Desktop.
I think there are problems with vista, if your RTW folder is installed inside the program files folder, so you should direct or move it to somewhere else. But I'm not really shure, because I don't have vista.
Don't install RTW in the Program Files folder with Vista. It will cause a major rift in time and space.
Also, there have been rumours that RTW is more prone to C-ingTD with Vista, but nobody can really confirm that.
This space intentionally left blank.
Well...you actually can if you turn off some of the security features. RTW + EB 1.1 on Vista installed in C:/Program Files works just fine for me; I have only had one CTD and that was because I forgot to download the client ruler fix. Now that I have it works fine. (Knock on wood.)
Then again, I have the admin account on this computer, which might be a key factor.
"The Roman Empire was not murdered and nor did it die a natural death; it accidentally committed suicide."
Vista is such a pain. Almost every game I had on XP has some problem while working on Vista.
I installed TGE (the gold edition) in my G drive ( have external one) and the installation went off fine, but now the stupid thing doesn't start. Somehow the disc just isn't being read, and with the disc in I'm getting some weird clicking sounds instead of the normal hum. Its getting on my nerves!!!!!!!
I turned of the security settings mentioned, and I have admin access on the comp but still zilch.
Well the minute I type this the bloody clacking has stopped, and the normal humming you get has started. Still no joy on the "game actually starting" front.
